Why does everyone keep there alk so high? Isnt natural seawater closer to 7 Kh?

I shoot for 9.5. Every test kit I've used has been different. I figure if I'm off by a couple points in either direction it's ok, and it's more in line with the salt I use so big water changes don't swing my alk.

One thing i know about alk is that higher levels are much safer than lower levels. My tank completely crashed when my alk was a 7 one time and when it climbs up to 15, they don't die or anything, they just look a little off.

67ml a day heavy stocked tank & frag tank about 80 gallons total

wow things have changed, last nite up'd the dosage to 120ml
