120 reef. Final checklist.

I would seriousally reccomend a MR-2 over a MR-1 and using a PCX 55 to drive it. These are beckett skimmers and they are only as good as the pump.

For this to work best I also reccomend a return pump that after head feeds your tank at least 1000 GPH so your skimmer can skim all raw overfow water.

Rich...thats a pretty big blanket statement. I run a 6000 along with modded 900's and I know the tunze is MORE flow. Plus no noise issue or restart at all. Plus its on a controller and pulses.

Maybe a really good 1200mj mod with a large size prop could push more then a 6000 but it wont be as reliable, quite and controllable. Its a good cheap solution though.....I run my MJ mods in my sump/frag tank and tunze in the display.

Then you're maximods arent built correctly. Properly built, they are 100% reliable, silent, and restart fine, and a 900 will move anywhere from 1600-2000gph.

You must be the master of DIY then...because I know lots of people who have a hard time with them. Infact there are a ton of posts with people troubleshooting them on the MJ thread. Give me a break its not that easy to make a perfect MJ mod.

I have one that is silent and one I can not get silent for the life of me. Either way they are not as nice as a tunze....and shouldnt be for the price difference.

Also how did you measure the gph rating on your modded MJ...just curious.

the 30g trashbag in a stocktank method of measuring flow. Its not exactly accurate, but within maybe 10%. I had a pair of Tunze 6060s. I sold them because the Maximods worked better. I suck at DIY, but this was pretty easy.
