I'm getting my 120 (48"x24"x24") tank set up. Upgrading from a 70 cube. Currently have a pair of clowns and a threadfin cardinal. I keep a mix of sps, lps, clams and zoas. Lighting is (2) 250w hqi halides. What are some cool fish to put in the tank?? I'm not really sure what I want to put in there at this point. Ideas?? Thanks.

Wrasses, chervon or yellow or bristletooth tangs, anthias, chromis, blennies, assessors

Its too hard to pick fish for someone. What you may think is cool, I may think is lame lol

i am also planning on putting a yellow eyes kole tang and a rabbit fish, and maybe a purple tang.. (this is for my custom made 125 gallon 4 feet length and 2.5 feet wide )i think?) it is deeper than normal..

i was told by my LFS that those should be fine together for my "big" fish"

I personally think they could get along for a while if you narrowed it down to two "big fish", but swap them out when they get big. If you do a purple tang add it after everything else.

I was thinking about adding a kole tang. I'll add a mandarin in a few months. Definately would like suggestions on wrasses (that can live with only having a 2" sandbed). Isn't a foxface hit or miss in a reef with zoas and lps?

i was told because my tank is soo deep as in width that it would be fine even tho it is only 4 feet wide because of the swimming amount it would have in its tank..

that is what i was thinking.. of maybe downsizing the fish i would like.. but my show fish would be the powder brown.. wow.. they are soo pretty.. (i am getting the measurements now fro my LFS, i am getting a allready established reef and tank.. it is just the fish i add on my own except for 2 clowns.. they come with the tank..

yeah those purple tangs have amazing designs on them when they get to their adult size.. or just bigger size.. those are beautiful as well..

i was really debating between the powder blue and a powder brown.. but the brown won.. lol even tho at the LFS they ahve a powder blue, and wow it has personality.. ill look at it and it will lookright back and me and kinda show off.. and it likes its refletion in the glass.. lol :)

would i be able to keep a butterfly in a 30 gallon for a few months untill i get my 125 gallon?? (kinda off topic....)

If you have never kept a saltwater tank, I wouldnt recommend it. They are one of the hardest if not the hardest fish to keep in marine aquaria

They go from left to front not front to back. They would still have to stop once they reach the end of the tank. And if this was the fish store that told you that then of course they would say that. They want your money.

IMO I would much rather have a little smaller happy fish than a large stressed out fish.

yeah.. that is true about having smaller happy fish than stressed out fish... so what is the minimum size fish in " should i have?? i was told by my LFS that is is 8" max.. what tangs would you recomend then?

my tank is custom built.. it is a little deeper i think.. or that is what he told me... (getting the tank from my LFS.. ) im really hoping to get that powder brown.. would he be fine in my tank??

the copperband butterfly is my sons favorite fish.. that is the one he is hoping to get of all.. and it is all tecnically for his birthdy and xmas present.. lol even tho i think i am more excited than he is.. haha (he is 10 this december) he first wanted sharks.. lol but another LFS told us that sharks are boring and that we would need a HUGE tank if we wanted a non boring shark, and to do saltwater instead.. so i been doing research, and looking for a few months now.. and i found this tank (the 125g) and allready started putting money down on it.. but im sure ican switch it up to another tank.. i just dont have room for a 6 foot tank in my house.. and i actually live in a mobile home so i dont even know if it it will hold a 180 gallon 6 foot tank.. (that he first recomended to me) i may have to support the floor from under my trailer house.. but my 30 gallon is not sinking into the floor yet...

There isnt a minimum size per se, but its more about the fishes preference and swimming patterns. Swim more than others. Some require more space. And also they should be able to turn around easily. But tangs are big swimmers. So they like alot of swimming room in proportion to their size. Thats why I say go with some of the smaller tangs. Still got plenty to chose from that 4 foot is enough. My fav of the smaller ones are koles and chevrons.

I plan on getting a 120 myself in the near future so Ive spent alot of time consider a stock list. Dreams...I tell ya. Dreams

lol ya.. i know.. i think i been dreaming fish.. i started a 30 gallon just to get me started untill that 125 comes in.. but cycling is taking forever! but i heard patience is the key and good things will come in time, while bad things can happen right away! so im trying to take my time.. and be patient, but its hard.. (hance the 30 gallon i started while i get my 125 in december.. lol) my whole family thinks im crazy.. about getting such a big tank.. but im the more animal lover in the family.. (2 dogs 1 cat, 2 betta fish..) i would always bring home critters in my highschool days.. i would bring home cats, and one time a lizard, iv had birds, and such.. (not allowed birds now tho because of my family farm that i live on.. we raise turkeys.. its our livelihood so if any diseases comes in contact with them.. well I would be dead!! haha so .. here i am again with marine life in my house! it is amazing.. liking having a slice of the ocean in your own home! and its a benifet since i work where i live.. so im always around to take care of all my "zoo" animals.. haha

i hard that marine bettas even tho they are a bigger fish.. they are classified as a medium because they just sit around looking pretty.. that is one fish i would like to get.. they are soo pretty!! have you heard anything about those??
(sorry i type and text alot.. but when it comes to actutally talking i can by shy.. haha)

Powder browns are the same as blues. 6 ft tank 125 gallons. I mean you can try it. But plan on if it doesnt work out finding it a home.

Also if keep in mind the tangs should be put in last. So you have time to consider what kind of tangs to get.

But as far as the butterfly, I wouldnt recommend it as I said before. They problem is getting them to eat properly. Some dont think butterflies should be available in the hobby. As their death rate is very high.
