1200 gallon reef build!!!

Here are some other pics of the lights, circulation, and under the tank...
The lights will be getting the reflector aded to them and have to be the industrial style because the are waterproof and have to pass inspection but they work for now:fun4:

it should turn out nice when you are able to sit down and look at it, plus it has a nice viewing window so it looks like something out of the shed aquarium

we were actually thinking of adding another pump for more water movement, and that Hyrdro wizard should work perfect. Have you used it before??

wow it looks great! especially with the bar stools! i think you can get away with 2 mp60's. cant wait to see her filled with corals. what lights are you using? i'd go with led's because they save A TON of money on the electricity bills and work great. i have 3 myself

We did see the mp60s and a local fish store does sell them and they have one on display. They seem to work great since they have a beautiful setup. We have 3 MH that are 400W for now and we are geting the nice lunar reflectors.

thats a big tank! nice progress so far

have you considered "cooking" your dry rock? it appears you have atleast 1000lbs, and with so much of it your phosphates could be high for quite some time. just something id consider imo. keep us posted!

lol thanks I will not try to be shy and hopefully this forum is able to bring this reef together. Thanks hedgegrew I am a fan of your tank it is lookin great

I have never done a closed loop? How would you set it up?
I am just not familiar with that system usually i just add those internal circulation pumps inside

"Closed-loop" is a system whereby your water intakes and outputs are all in the tank. You can do it with pipes running under the sand or you can take the whole system outside of the tank by drilling for bulkheads, either up through the bottom or on the sides of the tank.

Whether the pipes stay in the tank or are run through bulkheads, the pump remains outside of the tank. For systems with multiple closed-loop outputs in the tank, many people use an OceansMotions device to periodically switch between one bank of outputs to another. Do a search on RC for "closed loop" and you'll get tons of hits as this method is popular in larger tanks.

great information on closed-loop dave.m!

Nick,

this is a so long tank - we're talking about 120ft!!! in a system like that i'll set up two closed-loop at minimum, using two oceans motions 4way (there is an 8way available but the plumbing is a mess!!!) combined with two reeflo pumps - super dart gold is a good option.

also you have to have a plenty space underneath the tank to run all plumbing work. we talking about ball valves, a lot of pipes and sizes - 2", 1 1/2", 1", adapters, a lot of GFCIs and patience...

have you thought to draw a draft (paper, sketchup) with your thoughts about circulation? A friend of mine has a tank with 18 feet "L shaped" and he is facing some problems with bad circulation - actually he's tank has 4 mp40 and IMO they are not distributed optimally and the closed-loop ins't an option, in other words, circulation is a thing that you have plan a lot, so my friend plan plan plan!!!

when you have time just get into my build thread there is some thought/ideas that can help you: >>> http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2003931
