So i've been searching online for a good lighting unit to start a 2nd set-up for my 5 year old and I came across this 120W Lighting Unit. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with these or similar lighting units that are programmable and dimmable.

Buy it on ebay for ~$120 cheaper or buy a better one on Reef Breeders for $180 that has a better spectrum and warranty for $180. It'll work to grow corals, but the Reef Breeders Value will work better.

Well the ones your referring to are only manual dimming. This unit has a controller built in on three channels. 2 Mains and 1 for the moon leds. I looked at the reef breeders photon series but they want $330 for a custom layout. The aforementioned Unit offers a 1yr manufacturers warranty, whatever optics I choose and Spectrum layout as well for the $250.

The unit you linked is like a value unit, with a timer to turn it on an off, wich you can buy at walmart for 5 bucks. The photon controller can change intensity throughout the day, in one hour or half hour increments.

That unit does the same as the Photon Series with 6 set points of dimming. It's not just an on/off timer. The value unit your referring too they sell for 150 which requires the walmart timers for on/off. Apparently this unit is an update to the ones they used to carry that didn't have the manual dimming knobs to actually dial in the color at 100% when reached through the program cycle.

So they got back to me within 5 min of asking for a few pics of the menu system and clarification if it's actual dimming or on/off. It's dimming across the six set points. Here is the menu structure of the Blues.
