Mangroves are not great uptakers of nutrients in a closed system. Cheato is MUCH more efficient. Mangroves also deplete Magnesium very quickly in a closed system, so you'd have to dose it regardless of whether you're doing 2 part or not.
hehe yup...mine started as pods and grew to over 3' in about 6 months...many many leaves...and they also did an amazing job at eating magnesium...i was dosing about an ounce of home made every week to go with the ounce of each two part every three days...

Still not a whole lot going on right now but I just like to post pics. :D

This is kind of backtracking but I took a shot of the back plumbing.

Also, this is how I got the sand to stay in the rocks. I used epoxy to fill the holes so the sand wouldn't fall threw.

And finally I have replaced my stolen XTI camera. Up until now I have been using my blackberry to take pics. I just hooked myself up with the Canon 50D. Now I just need to learn to use it.

Thanks Alex
The material is Precision Coatings Inc - PC3 Acrylic Polyurethane Topcoat. My company www.accuratecolorsinc.com uses it for architectural elements and high end finishes. I get it from Frazee Paint and its about $130 a gallon. They make a wide array of colors. I think it would look great on a large tank. This nano is really just to hold me over but when I build something big I will for sure be using this material as a background. Maybe not the color I chose for my nano because its so dark. I'll probably use one of the emerald green colors.

I do have practically a whole gallon left over of the blue. I would be willing to sell it to you cheap if you wanted to give it a go. It is only for spray application (because its metallic) so you would have to have some knowledge/equipment to use it.

I am really glad you finally added mangoves, thats the reason I jumped in this thread and haven't been disappointed yet~

Thanks
Ive only added the one for now but I have two others in a bucket next to the tank that are being acclimated.
I couldn't make up my mind for a long time on whether or not to add them but I am pleased with the way they look. The only thing I am worried about is them taking all of the magnesium in the tank. I want to add a small clam or two so I guess I will have to dose to keep up with the demands of the tank.

Another point here is the way you position your mangrove looks fine but it won't grow out strong red arched roots. I keep my mangroves floated and only roots submerged in the water they have some really nice scarlet color roots growing now.

Ya I'm using them more for aesthetics and appeal rather then function. Id rather not have them floating around in the display.

Actually as I was typing my last post I was thinking about that. I may try to do that. The mangroves I have sitting in the bucket have some really nice roots.

Glad u told me about this thread... Really clean set up! I really like how you thought out the design before diving in. I'll be following this thread for sure!

are you worried about the clearance between mangroves and the light? It will get closer and closer as it grows....

Not really. If I ever have a problem I will just remove them.

Thanks for the zoa's. They are awesome!
And thanks for letting me stare at your tank for so long. I have been starring at an empty tank for so long I forgot what they look like with coral!

The tank is masked and ready for paint but the company told me it won't be here until next Thursday. Oh well, it doesn't really matter because I'm "busy" right now.
