$15 Dollar Nano tank

Last night I was scrolling Craigslist and came across an "11 gallon" saltwater tank for 15 dollars. I figured it was a scam and kept scrolling. Then later I figured what's the worst that could happen and sent him a text message. He told me the tank had been sold and the guy was coming in the morning, I was a little disappointed but no big deal. Then this morning I sent another text to see if the guy had come by and grabbed the tank, to my luck he had not. So I rushed over and found this:

It came with a full 5 gallon tub of instant ocean reef salt. Test kits, nets, new mag drive, and some fish food. As well as a pistol shrimp, a emerald crab, and a few snails. I gave him the cash and started to disassemble the tank. And found

an insane amount of bristle worms in the rocks and filter pads. When I got home I cleaned the tank, washed the equipment with a vinegar solution. I also tried to get rid of all the aptasia. I'll post pictures shortly after the sand in the water settles to the bottom. Just thought I would share my find with you guys.

Excuse that typo haha[emoji28] here is some pics of the water change. And the sand bed after being filtered so only the small grains are left.

Should've kept it going as an aiptasia biotope.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. Petco is coming up on a $1 a gallon a sale again, I think. Just keeping moving rock between the two letting your berghia grow and aiptashia growing then sell them locally for $5 a piece. Be the only person in the game.

I was that guy. Lol.

I had to work, and had alot of homework.... There was just no way I could get there in time :(

I'm pretty upset.

The tank is looking a lot better, I'll post pics as fish and coral go in after making sure there are no more bristle worms in there. Also thinking of upgrading to kessil led, though I have seen some of these look great with the stock Pc lighting, anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Niiiiiice, can't beat that. If I a lfs owner, I'd liquidate all of my tanks for 15 dollars. I know that within a very short time, the tank and addiction would have brought back at least $1500 in business lol

Looks pretty darn good already! Is this your first SW tank? Is your grand total investment still $15?

Impressive!

No, I've been in the hobby for a while now. And yes, I am at a grand total of $16.35 because I bought some RODI water. Everything is looking a lot better now, I'll re aquascape and post an update.

Awesome. What are your future plans (possible upgrades, critters, etc....)?

Another update on the almost free, skimmerless nano, picked up so photosynthetic gorgonia and GSP. Anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of the rest of the aiptasia? The Red Sea aiptasia killer came with the tank but some it floated around in the water and might have landed in my hammer coral.. [emoji17] also curious if you guys have any ideas on how I should get rid of the dead coralline algae on the back of the tank. Well that's all for now, thank you for checking the thread! Make sure to use the syringe that came in the box to squirt a small amount in the mouth when open and you should not have any issues with it floating around your tank, aiptasia will close up will all the liquid. Stuff works great.

Maybe I am injecting too much, but when I inject it into the aiptasia they close up and some squirts out.

I have to agree that it might be too much going to the mouth. Try a smaller amount and see if that works. Good little tank for the price by the way.
