Been out of the hobby for about 5 years, my last tank was a 120 (4x2x2) with a 75 gallon sump (about 40 gallons of water). Mainly soft corals just started getting onto hard corals when I moved and decided not to keep a tank.
We moved into our new house about 4 years ago and now I am re-doing the basement and am going to do a 150 peninsula tank, with a 150 gallon sump.
My wife is due in 3 days so I am scrambling to get a few things done before we have a newborn (and a 2 year old).
The new setup will be a 150 gallon (4 foot tank) with a 150 gallon stock tank as a sump. I am lucky enough to have a work room directly behind my tank so all the equipment will go in there.
Bringing the tank home:
In garage with sump, waiting to be drilled:
Position of tank stand:
I am going to be doing a beananimal overflow, and have a Ghost overflow box:
It's been a while since I have setup a tank and I really forget a lot. I kept about 200lbs of rock from my last tank and it is dry in a trashcan in the basement.
What is the recommended procedure for using dry rock? Should I just put it in the tank once filled and seed with some live rock?
Also I will be putting the stand directly on the basement floor, is this a bad idea? Should I put something underneath it?
