150 is being filled

I have a question/concern. In the past in my 65 gallon I had a few fish that developed ich, that ended up not making it. Can the ich survive on the live rock? The reason I ask is that I bought a chocolate tang about three weeks ago and it was doing great and ate like a pig then out of the blue it just was covered in white spots and died very fast two days ago. Could the live rock from my old system that is now in my new system still carry ich? What can I do in my display to make sure that the ich isn't still in there?

I plan on getting more fish but they are all going into a qt tank every time. Also should I medicate the qt tank as a preventative measure? Or just observe and medicate as needed?
 
If it really was ich and the tang was in your DT then you now have ich in your tank. The live rock from your old system could have carried over ich to your new tank. The only way to get rid of it is to stop the ich cycle by leaving your tank fishless for 8 weeks. I had a similar experience with a kole tang in QT. It ate like a pig and was fine for couple weeks and then BANG - spots and dead in two days. I was using Prazipro just as a precaution to start with. I started Cupramine once the spots appeared but it was too late. In retrospect I'm pretty sure my tang had marine velvet because of how quickly it died. My tang was a Diver's Den tang so you just never know with tangs. They're pretty but they're also a pain when it comes to disease. Good luck.

you have that right Tangs are a pita. I dont think it was ich now that im learning about marine velvet, this really sounds like what it could be. Now im just worried that i need to tear everything down and start over. Not really what i wanted to do but if thats what needs to be done then I guess that is what I will have to do.

Hey Mike,
Just a suggestion. Be careful with these cheap true union ball valves from HD/Lowes. They don't tend to last long. I'd suggest sticking with the quality stuff Savko carries. Same goes for the standard unions. Pay a little more up front for quality.
 
Also that is a ton of phosphate remover. Like carbon, you only need a little bit. I would suggest just filling that reactor about 1-2" anything else is just wasting it.

I noticed that as well. Looked like a ton of GFO. Same goes with your BP. If I can suggest anything, try to plumb your effluent of your biopellet reactor into your skimmer. I found a way to do it online and I have noticed a difference in skimmate color and production.

Thank you, the BP is 250 ml less than suggested. It looks like a lot in a small reactor. And the gfo reactor is very small only a 3" I only used the recommended amount for that. When I switch it out im going with the brs higher capacity. Also the effluent lines for both reactors are directly in front of the skimmer intake
 
I now have my QT tank in place and set up. Im really glad that i went with at QT! I feel with all the fish problems ive had in the past that it is a must. I have read about them and kinda blew it off. I now will QT 100% of all my fish that will be in this display.
Its nothing exciting, just a 10 gallon with a small filter and heater.I have it under the stand of my tank which was all free space. I have room for a lager tank so if anyone has a 20 gallon they want to get rid of Ill be happy to buy it.

Any opinions on treating the QT with copper no matter what just to be safe? Comments and concerns are appreciated. Pics to follow
 
Hey everybody! I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who kept me in this hobby and keeping my dream tank alive. I have a question, I'm lookIng to add more flow to my tank. As of right now all I have for flow is the water return from my reeflo snapper and a tunze wavebox. What would be some good power heads to add for more flow? I don't want to use a vortech, I ha this before but really didn't like it. I guess the only vortech I would use is an mp60 but that's a lot of cheddar! I'm thinking of adding like 3 tunze 6025. What do you think/ suggest? I do want to keep mostly sps
 
No not yet I will get them in a month or so I need to get a new Bass guitar Amp for an up coming show our band is doing in September and in December. My old one died and need to spend money on a new one.
 
So i traded lights to LEDs and i have to say that Im not really happy with them, they have been on my tank for a week and they just are not bright enough. I think im going to go back to T5s I just like the look of them better OR i might bite the bullet and buy 4 AI sol blues.
