150 SPS plan of Attack

Don't Panic!
I am getting ready to bite the bullet and switch out my vortech in favor of all tunze products. Currently looking at a 7096 controller and 2 6105 pumps. Before I drop the money on this, I would like some advice on if this will be adequate flow for a sps tank. The dimentions are 48" long, 30" wide, and 24" tall. I would consider putting 6055's if you think that would be a better plan of attack. Even if it involved going w/ 4 of these instead of 2 larger pumps. I am not interested in a wavemaker because of the size it takes in the tank. Thank you for your input.

My tank is 48 x 48 x 24 and I have 2 Tunze Streams, one 6200 and one 6100. I only run one at a time and have them on opposite sides of the tank in the corner blowing over the top of the reef diagonally. I think dual 6105s would be perfect either blowing together on low or alternating on full. I pulse mine at the fastest interval possible from low to the highest I can get without blowing sand. My 6100 is just right the 6200 has to be dialed down in power not to blow sand. Also I have both older models and newer ball models and am here because I am about to place an order myself for 2 new 6105s.

I think you will be very happy with your selection if you decide to go that way.

I think 2 6105's is the way to go, especially with any SPS as the tank is very wide so in a diagonal position across the tank, the 6055 just don't have enough force. 4 6055 may be better for a heavily LPS tank, but otherwise I would go with 2 6105.

Thanks for the replies. I am hoping they will be back in stock at most places soon. Does the mac software for the controller work well?

This Christmas was the first real sign of life in the global economy we had seen since late 2007 and we were caught off guard by the demand for 6105, 6055 and a few other items. When the factory closed Christmas eve they had whittled down backorders on 6105 from about 500 to about 200 but we still are behind, I expect by mid February we will back to having them readily available. We did just ship the ones that came in over the holiday week this week, so some may become available but we still have a backorder with the factory from last year.

The mac software is superior to the PC software from my experience. I have never had a single connection issue, I have never had to change the cable or port settings. From what I have been told by various programmers, PC's allow a more sloppy USB protocol and Mac's are very exacting so as a result for it to work at all, every little glitch with USB connection had to be polished out and it really connects well. It took over a year to get it to connect to a mac as a result.
