150g Starphire Peninsula Build Thread. SPS and BTA's. Pic Heavy!

As I write this the new tank has been up and running for about a month. I had intended to do a build thread as I progressed but didn't have time as I was also moving into a new home and working overtime. So, what I've decided to do is update it over the next as if it were in progress. Eventually I will catch up and updates will be current....

So... first time I saw a low iron glass tank in person I knew that my next tank would be one. :eek2: Said tank also happened to be a peninsula as well, which had always been a style that intrigued me, especially with sps tanks. It's safe to say this tank in detail has been planned for a while now.

This will be the second upgrade for me since embarking on this unforeseen obsession nearly 8 years ago. 46g -> 90g -> 150g

Previous tank details:
90g Marineland glass 48x18x24
Monterey Stand
(2) Ecotech Radion Pro (Gen 2)
Neptune Apex controlled
Aqueon Proflex model 3 Sump
SWC 160 Cone Protein Skimmer
(2) Ecotech MP40
Reef Octopus BP reactor with DIY Recurculating plumbing
Carbon Reactor
GFO Reactor
2 part dosing via BRS pumps controlled through Apex
Kalk dosing via top off water

New tank details:
150g GlassCages built
60 x 25 x 25
Starphire Glass on all sides aside from overflow
Overflow set up for peninsula
Custom Stand with removable panels on each side. No metal hardware.

Additional equipment or upgrades from previous tank:
Skimz SD203 Oval Cone DC controlled Protein Skimmer
1 additional Ecotech Radion.
(3) Hydor powerheads

I had also wanted to upgrade sumps but couldn't end up deciding on one.

Unfortunately I don't have any type of generated blue prints or anything, or individualized pics of equipment, step by step pictures...etc. My purpose instead provide a visual timeline of coral growth and progression for my own reference as well to hopefully provide some enjoyment and possibly inspiration to the RC community.

That's all for the boring stuff, now time for some pics!

More to come soon!

I've been running Radions for about 3 years now. Originally had two over the 90g and a third one for frag tank or backup (using all 3 with this tank)

I had standard Gen 1s at first, all had fan failures which were promptly repaired by Ecotech Marine. I upgraded to Pro's (Gen2) well over a year ago. Major improvement. I see no reason to upgrade to Gen 3 Pro's at this point.

I'll say the extra UV and violet spectrum's seem to make a difference in growth and especially color.

Moved over half of my corals at this point. Still have BTAs, all fish, and some SPS left in the 90g.

No problems so far~

All livestock now transferred over. Fortunately there were no hang ups and everything settled in nicely. I haven't permanently placed most of my acros. I'll attempt to strategically place according to lighting/flow needs, potential growout room and growth direction, and color diversity.

At this point I was also still using temporary sump and skimmer and had not installed a lot of equipment like dosing pumps and reactors.

Will post sump setup soon.

Thanks for viewing.

Nice tank AJ. I'm running a 90 now and I'm planning an upgrade to a 6' tank. How do you like the width of your new tank? With it being 25" wide and 25" tall, how is your reach into the tank? If your tank wasn't a peninsula would you still go 25" wide?

I'm happy with the width, but would have like to have gone a foot longer 180g, but wouldn't have been able to transport in the bed of my truck. It's the same height as my 90g. I can reach most things without a stool, everything in tank with a stool.

The tank looks awesome:D. That is one of the big advantages of leds like the radions, you can program everything and anything.

I had intended to provide additional info about the system and have some pics to go along with it, but have been pretty frigin busy. Instead I decided to go ahead and bring the thread to current status. I started taking some top down pics and due to utter stupidity and clumsiness my main lens got filled with water... so put on the macro lens and was especially careful.

Lighting was pretty much in dusk phase (all blue/uv/red) so the white ballance is a little funky!
