165Gl to 1000Gl system upgrade (Long project)

a few hours back while upstairs in the house I heard a few loud cracks and yes the tank broke on me.
the bottom pane must have cracked as water was running out from the bottom of the tank. Had to struggle to save as many fish as possible and try to divert as much water as possible. Still about 300 to 350gallon went all over the floor.
Had some great help from my parents who are still here for vacation
Tomorrow the tank builder will come by and see what actually happened and take it from there
lets see what will happen..........

Wow man nothing like 300 + gallons of seawater on the floor, can't imagine what that must of sounded like! Hope everything gets better your way though, ready for another update on what they are gonna do for a replacement? Did it crack on the at the closed loop drains?

Sorry to hear of the setback.

If I was the tank builder I'd ask if the concrete was reinforced, think the board under the tank to be very thin and the span in the stand the widest I've ever seen.

If the stand is perfect you will hopefully get another tank for free.
Some large tank manufacturers say it will void the warranty not buying a stand from them for the tank.

Ya, its quite ridiculous though. The stands we build are a LOT stronger than any aquarium manufacturer's stand.

claim is that the stand is not 100% level and does not carry the entire weight of the tank equal?

Project will be delayed for about 5 months I guess
things is I have to get back to work soon too so guess I will delay everything till I get back from that which will be in about 5 months or so.
Will most likely try to keep whatever fish left in the filtration tanks till then
though might also lock everything down and try to sell all I have now and have everything empty till I get back???

You know exactly now what to do to get the stand right.
Shame to see a new tank go like this.

Good luck with the next round.

so are you covered for the cost of a new tank? I can not imagine going through all of this detail and the stand was not level.

Nope nothing covered
will have to get a repair done.
Tank builder says to break out the bottom pane and replace with thicker and stronger glass.
Stand will have to be reviewed and more detailed too.

very sorry to see that.

why do you was the reason for the bottom pane to break like that?

also was it tempered? how thick was the bottom glass?

bottom glass was only 12mm
as it was drilled by the builder himself I do not think it was tempered.
I think the reason of the glass to break was a combination of several mistakes one being the glass too thin and not being treated after the holes were drilled.
Also the thick piece of styrofoam could have had an influence like many people think but again many conflicting ideas about the use of styrofoam go around so not sure about that.

Wow, just read through your thread and was shocked to see the new dispay cracked. Hope you get everything back on track.
