180 build from scratch!

I really can't think of anything else that it could be. Maybe one of the employees though a ray was sick and added some sort of treatment containing copper.

Supposedly tests have been sent out, but the ETA on them are a few months, or so the media says. Chances are by the time that the results are back, the media won't care, and the public won't hear anything about it. The Calgary Zoo's website also does not post anything about the recent problems at the zoo.

tests take no time at all. That sounds like total rubbish to me. An how do you house some many marine animals without a marine biologist?

Speaking of trouble, we had our own drama-fest this afternoon. My nano sprung a very tiny leak some time ago, and has been subtly leaking/creating salt creep for some time now. The back of my tank is pushed up ned to the wall, so you can't see behind it without REALLY looking. Seriously this tank has been far more trouble then it is worth.

Then we noticed that it wasn't just one leak, it was two, one somewhere we can't find, and another in a the plumbing. Where did these come from? There was nothing over the first month or two that this tank was running. I used to check behind the tank as part of my regular maintenance. I just let it slide for a couple of months and look what happens! As soon as I started cleaning away the salt creep the leak got worse, so I stopped cleaning. The tank needs to be emptied out to be patched.

The nano is coming down ASAP. I'm so sick of this tank and its problems. It really took the fun out of reefkeeping. We are moving the livestock into the 180g. I was hoping for at least another week to let it mellow out, and to move a clean up crew over. There isn't anything we can do to stop the leak that won't compromise the livestock.

On the positive side, at least this happened on a weekend and a day where we were both home and able to attend to the problem quickly. I also got a MH up over the 180g to test out the reflectors, as well I did do a bit of aquascaping. The power control box is almost complete, it needs some tweaking to fit into the stand, but the basics are all in and ready.

I'll post some photos once the transfer is completed, and everyone has settled into their new home.

That certainly seems like it. All the fish are quite happy this morning. Even last night they were out, about, and begging for a meal. Very few of them even hid after the transfer. I tossed in nori this morning, and its like nothing happened, they are just pecking away like usual. Clams are looking good too, mantles extended, etc.

I think we will go for 2x250 MH for a few months and see what happens. The luminarc reflectors give good coverage right now, and hopefully that will be enough to avoid having to put a 3rd MH bulb over the tank. We are going to supplement with something, T5s most likely.

We started with the power control center before the other tank started to go south.

This little pest feels to need to be in every photo, she is always underfoot. However we love her, so we put up with her neediness.

First attempt to slide it into place. Needless to say, someone measured once, cut once, rather then measured twice. It doesn't fit, so that needs to be addressed today.

Sort of new aquascaping. I do not like the rocks in the back right corner. They are heading straight to the sump soon. I also want to change a few things, but for now, this will do.

With a single 175w MH in the center. I need to pick up the 2 250w ballasts, and 1 250w bulb.

I think the plan is to have the reflectors slide in and out of the canopy. I don't really know the details, as the plans change on Friday. Kevin's brother works in high-end wood working, so a few ideas have been kicking around between the two of them. I'll see if I can't find out what the current new plan is!

Yes cute dog too. My little "helper/dog" just runs off with everything. How big are those clams they seem to be loving it?

Not yet, the plan is to stain and seal it. I'm glad Kevin tried to put it into the slot first before I decided to pull out the staining materials. There is also some additional electrical stuff to be done back there, making it a bit more water tight.

Our "helper" dog just tries to climb into your lap at every chance she gets. We spoiled her a little too much when we first adopted her, and now she is overly attached.

The gigas on the left is about 7-8" and the derasa is probably about the same size. There are two more crocea clams above these two, about 4" and 5" respectively.

My last 2 post didn't make it to your thread....Uughh.. The clams are sweet. Can we get some close pics of your panel. I am planning mine out but not sure how to do it. I think I might wait till I get a controller. Yours looks real clean..

We originally wanted at RKE, but after having waited for so long we decided we couldn't wait any longer. At least this way we have some control and the crazy amount of timers we need. We still may switch out to the RKE once its released.

This is part of the panel. There will be 3 meters, pH, and nitrate, and ORP below the timers. If there is space we may add other things as needed.

They came from Rona, our version of Lowes up here. They are made by UPM Innovation and are called Programmable Light Switch Timers. Our models are the ETW350 Single Pole 18000w for use with incandescent or flourescent lighting. I'll look for some packaging and try to get you a photo.
