180 gal build-in SPS tank

Thanks Dennis! I was very impressed with your set-up! Very nice.
I got the tanks from Rual King ( they had free shipping at that time), they are called Ace Roto Mold 35 Gallon Full Drain Inductor Tanks

I just installed my Profilux and the Touch as well as the Mitras. Pictures will follow shortly.

.Marschall, I believe you are correct. Unfortunately they have a tendency to take over a tank. I remove them manually. Fortunately, they accommodate a lot of food for my Manderin

Looking great so far matey, i'm envious of your patience and willingness to wait and plan before adding water and look forward to seeing your reef come alive. :)

loki69 - Yes, the polyp extension was very good. However, since I have my NPS corals the extension is not to dominant anymore.
I guess, water quality is the key here. There is a fine line to keep SPS & NPS in one tank

biggles -Yes, it definitely pays off! It is amazing what kind of critters I have and my Mandarin is fat & happy.
Drawback is that the tank looks not so clean as you usually see for an SPS tank

update Feb 2013

It has been a while, so I thought to give you folks a quick update:

I am now proud owner of the Profilux with Touch and the Mitras LED from GHL.
What can I say? I love it. I am just waiting for the App for the I-Phone to be released. Than I am really happy.

Having now a history of pH, temp, conductivity and redox, I made some changes already. I do a 5gal water change every day now.
After two weeks, I do see some improvement regarding water stability.

The next step would be a fully automated dosing to keep up with the Ca demand.

What to improve? I still have "œproblems" with red & green hair algae. However they are full of critters and my Mandarin is a little fat sausage and the sun corals do well too!
The DT just doesn't look very clean.

I used dry rock and glued the together with Gorilla-Glue (believe it or not) and a special reef-safe sculpturing epoxy (Polygem 307-lite)

How did you get your tang to recover from HLLE? Mine has it, can't for the life of me figure it out (diet is nice and varied and I pre-rinse all my carbon to minimize dust).

Very nice Hermann! I love your aquascaping. In my opinion keeping SPS and NPS is the ultimate challange. The fact that it looks so much more natural is a payoff in my opinion. I see so many SPS dominated tanks that bare almost zero resemblence to nature. The flower garden approach. Lovely but not all that inspired. . I like your attention to detail also. i will be following along. It's nice to see someone doing something like you are.

I got the tang from a LFS with HILLE. I didn't pay attention when it was caught and put into a bag.
I think a big factor is stress. At the LFS there were maybe 30 tanks in one tank and therefore it was very stressful & not much food (my guess).
Now the home has 180g and it is the only fish over 2" plus plenty of different food. BTW, I did also deworm it.

In summary I believe it is just the environment and good /different food sources.

Very, very impressive! how do you activate the toilet flapper ? is it mechanical, float ? sorry if I missed on previous posts. thanks

I was using a float, but it was not reliable. Sometimes the flapper wasn't closing properly. I am still working on a better solution but got side tracked with my new Profilux.
With the Profilux I do have now totally different options to control it mechanical / electrical.
