180 gallon tank build

Thanks AC11337!! Open was the idea. My fish throw me high-fives when I walk by the tank. BAM!!!

jjjo, the Ponape is a rare branching Birdsnest Hystrix.

Mine is just beginning to color up.

magdelan,

i hope you know your tank inspired me to redo my rockscape... pff hours spent on making it right.

anyway, i cant wait to see everything "grow in"

jjo, that's the beauty of reef keeping. you plant the plugs, envisioning what the tank will look like when they grow in. it's like a painting, but the paint has a mind of its own. corals just don't grow fast enough to satisfy our need for immediate gratification!

:) Quite poetic.
I agree with the anology and I personally like the phrase living art to describe reef aquariums. We are able to take some of the most beuatiful creatures and combine them in ways that are pleasing to us and others. If we can keep them alive and colorful or even find the color you wan't for a particular brush stroke.

We get to share information and learn from others who share our passion .

Perhaps even more importantly,we also get to observe the natural order and gain valuable insight from it.

What a blessing this hobby is.

I can't wait to get some growth from the SPS!! I currently have a green mille (from trs), green bali slimer (from josh vince), ponape birdsnest (from jeremy), green poccilopora (from trs), and patiently awaiting a purple montipora. Everything is looking great right now. I have them spaced nicely to accomodate some growth. Some corals that I still want are a pink pocci, green hydnophora, pink mille, rainbow stylophora, and some others that I don't know I want yet. I'll get some more pictures up soon.

mags, I may be in or near roch on Sun. If theres somewhere we can meet, perhaps I can help you with your wishlist. PM me and maybe we can work it out.

The tank is still doing well. The plastic ring on my filter bag broke, so I am having some trouble keeping it in place. Other than that, my params are doing well.

alk-8.8
ca-450
ph-8.3
po4-zero
no3-zero

I do have one question though... why has my green millepora faded to a green/tan color? it doesn't have that nice vibrant green that it had when I bought it. What could have caused this? Here are some pictures.

How the hell are you keeping that sand so clean Guy-O???

Say eh-low to my Lit-tle friend.

He's a good hard worker. He does most of his work after lights-out so I don't really get to see him much. I made a screen for the tank so he won't jump ship.

I'm guessing he made it from his old fish-net stockings

Can't get anything by you Capitan.

Milli's are very sensitive to phosphates. At least that's what I've been told in another thread, when mine weren't responding favoritively.

Are you running GFO or anything to remove PO4?

I do not run any Po4 remover. I have a fuge with cheato in it. The cheato doesn't seem to have grown a bit due to a lack of nutrients. I just tested for Po4 last night to which it was ZERO.
