180 sps setup, Sea Swirls or Wavysea

okay, for those who use either or of these products, which would be the better of the 2 based on value? I could pretty much get 2 Sea Swirls for the price of one of the Wavyseas. The tank i am setting up now is an oldschool 180 with the overflows in the corners, no the new mega overflows that are on the back of the tanks. i was going to put 2 of the swirls or wavyseas on the inside of the overflows on the back wall of the tank using the return pump for the flow to the devices. I was also going to put 1 tunze on both of the side walls of the aquarium for flow also.

so, what do you guys think? What would be more beneficial?

Get a tunze. They are about the same price as two sea swirls and use far less electricity.

I have 2 3/4" Sea Swirls on my 180 and love it. The actual sea swirl units use almost zero electricity (not sure why ricka said Tunze uses less). However, you will have to pumps the water through the sea swirls. If you plan to use your existing return pump then you will be using hardly anymore electricity. If you use a seperate pump on a close loop, then you may see more electricity.

I run two pumps. One for the return and a closed loop that runs through my chiller and into the tank through the sea swirls.

Jeff's Exotic Fish in Gadena, CA sells the 3/4" for $145. Pretty good deal IMO.

My friend has a 240 G with a TUNZE. He recentrly set up 1 sea swirl and loves it. He is planning on setting up another.

Goodluck!

I think he meant you can use a tunze and they only use a small amount of electricity as opposed to having 2 sea swirls with a monster pump on them to get the flow. With the tunze you get the high flow and can use a smaller return pump.

I use a wavy sea with a tunze 6100 mounted on it. It does a 180 sweep every 30 seconds. No water goes through my wavysea at all.

I also use a Wavysea Plus with a 6100. I replaced the screen with a 6200 screen and I have tremendous flow. In fact, for the most part its the only flow I need in a 48L x 32W tank. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

Thanks Ray. That is EXACTLY what I meant. Hmm. I hadn't thought about mounting a Tunze on a SeaSwirl. Imagine the possibilities.

I would just plumb your return straight into the tank and then setup a closed loop with an oceans motions 4 way. Did this on my 180 and couldn't be happier, the flow is incredible....

I know some people have done it, but the max GPH on a SS is far less than a WS. The WS standard is over 2,000GPH and the WS+ is over 3,500GPH. I have my 6100 on 50%/100% and its awesome. I wouldn't do that on a SS (I've owned a few). The other nice part about the WS is the mounting options, the total silence (my SS's clicked), the acrylic Stream holder (although I think $28 is too much), the controller that with a few buttons controls the speed from 1 to 6 and the sweep pattern. I could not be happier with my purchase. I also bought the WS+ though when Aq Specialty was running a special on them.

I'm going to put my WS+ and 6100 on a battery backup (TBD) in the event of a power outtage.

Do you have a picture of how the acrylic holder looks in the tank? I have my tunze mounted to the WS with zip ties. It is sort of high in the tank.
