180g fully stocked purchase

Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking abut upgrading my 75g to a 180g. I've found a screamin deal on one, but the guy already has it stocked pretty heavily. Let me know what you all think about keeping these fish in a 180g.

Hippo tang?

Blue sided fairy wrasse
Lubbock's fairy wrasse
Leopard wrasse
Melanarus wrasse
---is 4 wrasses too many?

Japanese swallowtail angel (female that is prettier than the males)
Blue Throat Trigger
Pygmy cherub angel
--- Thoughts on these 3?

He also has 3 damsels, i've always steered clear of these, but i'm wondering if in a 180 they'd be less trouble than in a 75g?

He also has a Yellow tang, which i'm inclined to keep. I have a yellow eye kole tang i'll be bringing to the new tank. I was thinking of doing a Powder blue and calling it at 3.

I've also thought about maybe going with like 5 Kole Tangs. Thoughts on this? Think I Could also keep the Yellow Tang?

You never want 2 of the same shape tang in a tank unless you have a huge system. The Kole, powder, hippo and yellow should be fine but I wouldn't add 5 kole tangs. That's just blasphemy.

Yeah that's what I figured I may hear. Is was thinking maybe a 180 was big enough for the smallish Kole tang to have multiple.

You really think a hippo is ok in a 180? I hear they are pretty active.

I had one in my 75 but it was only like 2". Start with a small one

I think you'll be fine with the tangs, minus the kole tang or minus the yellow. I would probably also ditch the trigger and the pygmy angel, but I like corals. If you don't want corals, then the angel would be ok. The wrasses should be fine. I'd also get rid of the damsels when you break down the 180 to move it. They can be mean SOBs. We also don't know what you have in your 75, but I wouldn't add too much to his stocking list, even if you ditch the damsels, trigger and angel.

I use to have 2 purple tangs in a 180g together and they were fine for 5 years. Purchased at the same time and size. Figure out what YOU want and then we can tell you if it can work or not.

Thanks everyone. So I've been doing some reading, and i'm suprised at how many fewer threads there are for a 180 stocking compared to when I researched my 75g. First question: say I started with a 2" hippo tang, how long am I looking at until he's too big? 1 year? 2? 4?

Anyway, here is what I'm thinking:

Kole tang (he's in my 75g, and i'm attached to him haha)
Yellow tang (always wanted one)
Powder Blue tang
Blue Throat Trigger
----am I too heavy on big fish? What if I dropped the trigger? Will 3 tangs work?

3 bangaii Cardinals
1 firefish
1 flame hawk
Bi color blenny
2 Occ clowns
Melanurus wrasse
African Flameback angel (I hear they're as close to reef safe as you can find in an angel)
He had the lubucks and fairy wrasse which I'm debating about keeping
Leopard Wrasse - debating on this one, I hear they are difficult, but he's had it a while so i'm guessing it's eating and doing just fine.

He has the tank stocked pretty heavily, I've seen what happens when you get fish who are too big/active for your tank (back on my cichlid days), and I'd like to avoid removing fish if possible.

This isn't a final list, so i'm curious as to everyone's thoughts.

I have a blue throat trigger in my 125 ( soon to be 210) they are awesome fish in my opinion! He has never picked at any coral, fish or even shrimp. The only thing he does is every time I get a batch of snails he will eat 1, only 1. They have a ton of personality and real nice colors. I've had mine for 6 years now. I recommend keeping the blue throat!

He was about 3" when I got him, now about 6" or so. There's a few pics of him on my page.

I have 2 yellow, purple,sailfin tangs in a 190
