I love the new look, and the tank looks ready for some livestock. Is it?

not yet. I'm gonna let it cycle for a couple of months...I've got a lot of patience:D I didn't add any livestock to my 240g for 3 months, and that tank did very well from the get-go.

Love your tank tbone28,im considering one in the near future myself, did you go with CJ standpipes after and if so how are they in terms of noise compared to a standard durso.

thanks
Jamie.

Thanks for your complement, Jamie. :)

Yes, I went with CJ standpipes, and they're dead silent! I love them. I got the 2" ones, so they should never clog. I've never used Dursos, so i can't compare.

Crazy! :hammer: are you serious?

Na, I was just joking. They can't all be gems, right?:p I do really like the new scaping, btw.

all looks very nice! Good to see someone with some patience too. Easier said than done, but better in the long run!

the new scape looks better. now your corals can grow to the water surface from that depth. it would look even better yrs from now.

LOL, I figured, but was just checking, cuz my wife wanted it to be about 3/4 of the way up the overflow - I don't want to go any higher than it is now.

Yeah, I made the mistake of building up too high on my last tank.

building high is good for tables.

My cycle's complete. I would have preferred to wait another month before adding livestock, but my wife really wanted to buy me a fish for my birthday...here she is!

Congratulations on your first acquisition. It's quite remarkable how little nuissance algae you have on your rocks. What's your current photoperiod with the T5's, and what lamps are you running? Are you taking advantage of the dusk/dawn effect with the Powermodule? I'm currently running 2 UVL super actinics for my dusk/dawn and I think it's pretty cool. Grim suggested I use a super actinic and a blue plus, but there's too much distance between the position 3 and 8 lamps and that gave me a blue zone and purple zone which looked a little goofy, but with your 8-lamp unit you may get a better blend with that configuration.

That is a beautiful fish. I've never owned a Sailfin Tang, but my Purple is in the same family at least.

dogstar, dogz, melev: thanks! I've been wanting a Redsea sailfin since my last tank. She's a happy one so far, eating already!

Dudester - I don't remember my bulb combo. It's whatever GrimReefer recommended on his T5 thread. At work right now, so I can't check for ya. Like you, I'm running super actinics for my dusk/dawn. He also recommended a blue-plus, but I was too lazy to ever getting around to try that. I may one of these days :D I don't have much nuisance algae beause I resisted the urge to turn my lights on while cycling. I would turn it on for a couple hours here and there. Other than that, it was lights off! The little nuisance algae you see is because I was leaving my lights on for 8+ hours a day near the end of my cycle. My rock started browning, so I turned the lights back off, and the algae started disappearing again.

If you have a blue plus in the mix you might want to try the super actinic/blue plus combo, as it probably will look pretty sweet. I am curious to learn your lamp configuration as I like your coloration very much.

As far as the lights and the cycle, I elected to leave my dusk/dawn lamps burning 8 hr/day, and the high intensity lamps burned for only 2 hr/day initially. I've been gradually increasing the 'bright' photoperiod and I have a little hair algae and a tiny patch of valonia developing. I figured I'd rather have the algae go ahead and bloom before the rocks are covered with corals.

Here's my lamp config:

Front

Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic
UVL Aquasun
Aquablue
GE 3000K
Aquablue
UVL Super Actinic
Blue Plus

Rest are ATI bulbs. I plan on increasing my "bright" photoperiod as I start adding coral, to hopefully absorb the lighting. I tried this with my last tank, and never had a bad algae bloom.

That is one sweet tank.

What are your future stocking plans going to be?

Thanks! Well, I'm a tang lover, but since I'm downsizing my tank, I need to be selective.

As far as tangs, I want a powder blue, Achilles, and Sohal. I had a powder blue and Sohal in my last tank. The Achilles and Sailfin are new for me.

As far as other fish, I don't know yet. After reading Edward's thread, I'm very curious about placing Angels in my system. Other than that, I want fish with "character".

Nice lamp selection. What color does the GE 3000K give off - seems like it would be almost a pure white?

I really want a Sohal as well, but I was told that it will get HUGE and can be very destructive. What size tank was your Sohal in before, and was it a 'model citizen'?

Sorry to comment/question so much today, I just really like your reef and your plans.
