I agree that Vortech is a great product, along with Tunze. Can't really go wrong with either. I think it's more user preference when it comes down to it, and so I refuse to get into debates over which is "better". They're both great.

Now, Tunze versus Powersweeps, and I'll be all up in ya face! :D lol.

Unless RIO has made great strides in quality and long-term durability, I will stick with Tunzes until they can match quality and support.

So, Mark, speaking of B-Boy, have you seen that dance show on MTV?? brings back memories...also makes me feel old too :p Kaba Modern is the shzz

I got one Vortech and believe me...stay away from it, noisy, unstable magnet so i had to go deep fishing each time i had to restart it.

I really like the footprint of the Vortechs. However, not as much flow as the Tunze 6201 and I read too many stories of that magnet falling. I would get annoyed having to reattach the magnet all the time. I've also read that the Vortechs are louder than the Tunzes? I also like that Tunzes can swivel.

Other than Tunzes being ugly, I like them functionally more than Vortechs :)

...I think Sang will chime in here shortly with a "Vortech > Tunze" post :D

Adidas, yeah? I used to jock them Stan Smiths with fat laces back in da days! haha :D Did you ever wear the black, suede Pumas with fat laces?? :)

Now, Tunze versus Powersweeps

What's wrong with Powersweeps ... those were my first 2 powerheads in my tank! :( They have long been downgraded to a box of reef junk I don't use anymore. When I run QT for Corals, that's when I actually pull one out of the junk box and use it.

That is why I don't want to try the Vortechs. There are many users who don't experience this issue, but I hear *enough* of these issues for me to hold back. It's not like they're cheap!

Powersweeps are junk! I bought 2 of them for my 240g, and they froze up on me in a few months. They require way too-often maintenance to keep them from freezing up.

Occaisional use in a QT is a good use for it, but not in a display tank. They should be named Power-Cheaps

Have to mention that i loved the controler.

Well the so called "new controller" wich turn that Vortech into a wave maker. It as a few good features like pulse mode, "reef crest"
"lagoon" etc, each of them adjustable in time duration and stentcht.
PS: Don't take too much atention to my english, do my very best.

bebereef - which controller are you referring to?

What do you mean "restart" it? I guess I have the only quiet one that has stayed in place for 4 months. When I pull the power plug when doing WC's, it starts right back up. I do not think they are greatest thing since sliced bread though.

BTW, how thick is your glass? I think they work best on 1/2".

I prefered to limit water movement when feedind fishes or corals so i was just keeping the modded nano stream on and when restarting the Vortech, add to do some deep fishing to recover the submerged part, hold them firmly together till started.
I'M on 3/8". Regarding the "sliced bread" thing well it's true but that controller is much more ajustable than the one i now have with my Tunze flowbox.:rolleye1:
