Ok so I thought I would be nice to do a write up of the build my LEDS (BML)

I was going mad trying to decide what lights i wanted over my tank. took me about 10 days to decide...you all know the story.

so this is a photo review of sorts. as there not a whole lot of info out there.
only had the light 1/2 of a day. so this will be an ongoing thread...hope it sheds some "light" on the subject!

this is the Multi channel ( 3 controllable channels ) 20K - XB series i got a 36" model as its going over a 40BR.

arrived in great condition.

they did a great job packing the light:

she is all unpacked...look at how sexy she is...haha
a>

here is the brains of the outfit. the soLunar controller:
a>

all hooked up and ready to go... some wire management will be in order. nothing some zip ties or electoral tape cant handle.
a>

over my sump. also a 40br...
a>

all channels @100% at high noon with a 8-10ft window in the room.
a>

I believe this was @50% lost track of my photos playing with my new toy..
sump was empty BTW

more to come. if anyone has any questions I might be able to help. I am buy no means an expert on this light. there is nothing like this on RC and when do a search came up with little. so here i am...

I think I would put like 4-5 of those over a 40b.

haha well they say one should work for a 40B it is the XB series also have 90* optics. only gonna have LPS, gorgs. and softies maybe a easy SPS up high.
we will see what i end up with.

I'm glad that you are doing this thread. This is going to help me out I think.
When are you going to get your tank wet?

Dennis you might want to try a couple 6' ones on your 200 replacing your T5's? During the heat of the summer at home I only run my MH's 3 to 4 hours day with running my Build My Leds 12. Last year I lost nothing and growth did not really slow down for these months.
Enjoy your new light. When my company said I could not mess with my thermostat in my office anymore I had to switch out my 250w MH on my 65 for one 20K BML (yes I know I need two, tell my wife that). So far I have not lost anything. the picture below is my 300DD with two BML fixtures

I was going to add "unless its a softie tank" and then I didn't. lol
I'd still run two though. Once you get rock and stuff in there I would think you would need better coverage. An empty tank is misleading. :)

I wouldn't want to replace the T5's but I am looking at adding a strip of actinic LED.
Right now I'm leaning towards the solderless kits from RapidLED.
But nice setup!

I would love to see one of those 20k paired with an super actinic, I'm torn between a 12k and actinic or 20k and actinic for when I upgrade lights

Dennis they make a fixture that mimics a VHO 03 actinic lamp

(Sorry about the hijacking Devaji)

Yeah, i know. I looked at them but I don't want just UV and they are expensive.
RapidLED will let me mix colors and they are high quality high output Cree LEDs and easy to replace if they burn out.

EDIT: but doing my due diligence... sent them some questions on the super actinic.

I have (sitting in storage now) 2 20k BML 48" strips I used for my 48x24x24 DT. It was enough for that. I would think 1 strip is enough for a 40B.

How much watts ? there is no specs on there website

they look underpowered..

From their website. It's a table but didn't format well below. You should be able to figure it out, or go to their site and find it.

Well they might have 15 leds per foot but if they are driven at 350mA when the full 1 or 3w of power require more, you get a lot less power. Watts = RI^2

Razor r420r 27" use 39 leds for 160 W (4.1w/led) and have a PAR of 2-400 @ 24" VS BML of around 100

Yes, look at 24" deep, no one use 30 degree lenses unless you stack many bar side by side

90 degree is probably more common, 70-80 PAR, even at 12" it's less than 155.

Not that I find the R420R the best but it's what I got now and you are looking at 400-800+ PAR at 12"

Hey Guys glad this thread is still going..
I do think one will be enough for my softie, LPS gorg. tank but we will see.

I hope to get my tank wet in the next week. long story but i cracked it drilling it then found a new one. not as easy thing in WY. but was not sure of drilling. anyway I have a CPR overflow box coming. one that gets here i am good to go...

now back to the light...
I am a bit disappointed about the "moon lights" the fixture can dim to 0 however it the power supply that cant so it turns off after 3% and for me that a lil to bright for moon lights makes for a great late eve. hang out but for moon just to bright.

was tested on a empty tank lets see what it looks like with water and rock.
i'll post some pic later today...off to work to support my addiction.

Couple days later I'm still waiting to hear back from them on my email.
For some reason they created a support ticket but it still says processing.
Don't know why someone couldn't just reply via email with some answers.
