All shot with in camera exposure metering at 0. All shot on a tripod at F8 with varying shutterspeed to accommodate ISO differences. All postprocessed with the same settings. Uncropped. No noise reduction. Lots of dark area to see noise. Focal plane was on lips, should have been on eyes. My b.

Seems I could shoot with ISO 2000 comfortably with fairly low noise. ISO 5000 with some noise reduction would still be sharp and not noisy IMHO.

Me too. Pretty remarkable really. I definitively start to see noise on my 7D at 1600, and anything above that needs some serious noise reduction. Trying to crop such an image just compounds the problem as well.

The focal plane misplacement and subsequent impact on profundity of low light handling prompted me to reshoot ISO 5000, 1000 and 25600. Here they are:

The quality of the 5000 is stellar! It opens up so many possibilities with creative photography and even the use of slower glass. The 10000 in this batch looks way better than the previous and the 256 is completely usable. Very impressive!
