his water has nothing to do with the cycle, maybe his established rock could have helped..i would say the tank isnt cycled yet..-Drew
When using cured live rock it is hit or miss if you ever see a cycle because it can be so fast that you'll miss it. Usually the rule is if you don't witness an ammonia spike then wait 6-8 weeks to be darn sure the tank has cycled.

Somewhat true for the rock. The bacteria that promotes your biological filtration is on substrate like rock and sand. It won’t be free floating in the water. So theoretically cured live rock will have all the beneficial bacteria but the transport of the rock out of the tank will incur die off and will need to cycle again (mini cycle that you might not notice) so in my opinion if you used all cured live rock then you won’t witness a cycle.

i transported it in the water i used for the tank. i bought all 29 gallons from him. salinity was all right. so narrow it down it has to be acclimation. or there is a silent killer in this water lol. im very frustrated and about to scrap the tank. (joke)

I would agree that drip acclimation for 1.5 hours is a bit much, unless you have a power head or airstone your water can become oxygen depleted. If your water is close to your fish store water, you probably can get away with 30-45 minutes of drip acclimation.

I think dwculp hit it on the head with the low oxygen levels. If the water was the exact same I think a 20-30 temp acclimation would have sufficed and put the fish in.

I have never drip acclimated longer than an hour and have never lost a fish after acclimation. In fact, I keep an eye on things and if fish start looking stressed during acclimation, I put them in the tank. If your water is close in SG to the fish store water, 30 minutes is all you really need.

Oh, I lied, I will drip acclimate inverts for an hour, sometimes more as they can be really sensitive to water changes.

Personally, I would wait a bit. One of the single biggest keys to success in this hobby is patience. Nothing good ever happens fast and as you learned bad things happen stunningly quick. Give things time to settle, keep testing your water, I like to have two different test kits for important water parameters. Try again in 1-2 weeks.

Patience, your tank will mature, you will have a nice tank, full of life and fish it just takes time.

I set up a 29 gallon FOWLR back at the end of August/beginning of September for our schools biology teacher. I used mostly dead, dry rock from a previous tank I had and seeded it with some store bought uncured LR. It was the end of October before I ever added a fish. I now even have sponges growing on the store bought LR.

patience is key, im paranoid that something got into my water that wasnt supposed too. then again i think its all fine. wouldnt all of my little insects i have in there from the LR have died by now if i did get something in there? this is a very stressful start im not going to lie =/

+1 I bought 130 lbs of cured live rock from a reefer getting out and my tank sat for 6 weeks fishless before I started to move things in. Never saw a cycle but it was better to be safe than sorry. 2 more weeks seem like a long time but the pay off is much better than rushing into it.
