2 hypo questions...

1. Does hypo reduce the amount of oxygen in the water by chance? (I have a 55 qt with 9 fish in it)

2. I have copper in the QT tank, despite PVC, the copper level is somewhat difficult to keep steady - esp. with Seachem test kits. Can I Hypo with the Copper in the tank or do I need to remove it completely?

Thanks!!

1. Studies have shown hypo actually increases the oxygen in the water, water can only hold so much, so with it not holding as much salt it has a chance to hold more oxygen with good aeration.
2. It's very common to have difficulty maintaining therapeutic levels for copper treatment. Chelated coppers keep in the water better but there is added chemicals used in chelation that can also leach in the water. Hypo/copper combo is a subject that is pretty debated here, you will get answers on both sides of this one.

my lfs had advises me to use the silver bullet as he referred to it as a combination of hypo and copper treatment. I have had alot of success trying this method.

You can combine hypo and copper if you are very careful to maintain the pH. Mixing the two is very dangerous otherwise. If the salinity is low enough then you should not need the copper for treating ich. Cupramine is the only copper that I trust. Keep in mind that copper is toxic and it will stress the fish.

Hypo is soooo much easier than messing with copper as you have found out. Hypo and don't worry about all the testing, dosing, testing some more, adding copper, testing, dosing, testing, etc. Hypo and that's it.

I'm going to do it! now I gotta read up how to do it - and make sure the achilles is eating well b4 I do (2 days in qt so far - eating good)
