You will need two mp40. Depending on what you want to keep just turn them up or down. Mp10 may not stick to glass depending on how thick your glass is. Really no brainer you need 2 mp40.
Okay I figured that. Considering ill need two ill have to start with less expensive powerheads and upgrade later. I want to do everything right up front but I plan on getting 3 AI sol units and a Neptune Apex so I think two MP40s will be out of my price range. One will work to start? Im hoping that my tax return comes through and will allow me to get eveything I need.
On a different note...how does changing the optics on an AI unit affect the spread? Im about do finish plumbing my tank and install it in my living room. I eventually plan on getting a 4th AI unit but figure 3 would be a good start with proper coral placement. I was wondering if o could get more coverage with three units and different optics on the units. Any suggestions here?

also the MP10's can be put on a tank up to 3/4" glass or acrylic.
I started out with one MP40 in my 90 and saved up or a second. Chances are a single MP40 would be plenty of flow for you at first since I doubt you'd want to fill it with SPS right away. By the time the tank it mature and stable enough for demanding coral you could have saved up for that second pump.
I've got a 90 too and am considering running a single MP40, my tank is all softies and LPS currently, since you've already tried I'm curious what your opinion is. I really don't want to spend $900 on water pumps for a non-SPS heavy 90.
Would a single MP40 in a 90 gallon be sufficient if you're not going to have SPS?
As it is right now I've got 2 Evo 1400s which add up to about the same amount of GPH total but I've been having trouble positioning them so that I get good water movement in the tank and I don't have 1 or 2 spots with way way to much current. Now that I've started to get my tank filled with corals it seems there's no where I can point them while running both that doesn't result in at least 1 coral looking like it's get way to much linear flow. Even pointing them right at each other results in heavy linear flow in the center of the tank.
