2 of 3 Tunze 6201's out of action again

Continuing the saga of my $1600 worth of 6201's :eek1: 2 of the three pumps are no longer working. I changed power with the one the was still working but yielded no improvements.

Of the two pumps, only one had been in service as the pump was more powerfull than what I really needed.

The pump that had been in service, is completely siezed. It appears to have siezed up today. Their was no audible alarms, I just notices the soft corals not swaying.

The other pump I was able to disasemble completely and the impeller was freemoving, so it's not a siezure issue.

These are 2nd replacements for the 6201's in just a little over a year. At this point I don't want new 6201 body's. They are breaking the clips on the magnets due to their power and they break way to much to believe there isn't something more to the problem. I perform routine maintenance on all hardware about every three months so I can't imagine it dumb reefer error (can't rule that out either I guess :bum: )
Even though the 610x's are alot cheaper I would like to just swap out the 2 failing 6201's with 2 6101's

In case you no longer have my address handy, it is 114 Meadow Creek Circle, Rochester, NY 14626 C/O Bob Roberts. I will be happy to send the 6201's back for your review if you wish.

Thanks Roger,

Bob,

I looked up the service record and I show we replaced one motor at the beginning of 2008, 01/08/08 to be exact. I don't see the point of replacing them with 6101's, there is nothing unique to the 6201 that makes it more problematic or makes the 6101's less problematic. In the early production of the 6x01 series we had some issues with the internal driver boards shorting and these were resolved by a series of board changes as well as changes in how the pumps are assembled. The last change being made in June 2008 was to encapsulate the driver in silicon. Just send in the pumps and we will take care of the problem. If you want less flow you only need to downsize the propellers, nothing more than that is needed, this way you can go back to the 6201's if you later feel more flow is needed.

sounds good to me, I'll send them in. Not sure who I order parts, but I would also like to order three of the clips that slide of the magnet holders and the pumps attach to the clips. I might as well order 2 of the downsized props and 1 of the normal 62xx props since I bent the plastic trying to pull it out of the seized motor. I hope this resolves the issue, I really want to love these pumps.

Thanks Roger,
Bob
