Has anyone ever tried 2 pairs of clownfish in an 8 foot long tank? I'm just getting one custom made and making my fish list. I'm planning on 3 sand dwelling anemones in the system, possibly sebae/lta/haddoni.

If I were to try this with that tank with specifically only 2 pairs this is how I would do it,
Add the anemones first, then buy all 4 clowns at the same time. Take one pair drop on one side of the tank, take the other pair and drop on the other side of the tank.
Doing it this way will give you a higher chance of success.

I've seem 3 pairs in 40
Doesn't mean it's a good idea. Almost always certain death.
This^^^^^ It really depends. I still don't think even in a 8' tank it is a good idea, not saying it cant be done.

I have kept 2 pairs in a 150 and 180 over the years. No problems. A. nigripes and A. chrysogaster. Then the gasters later replaced with A. chrysopterus in the 150. The nigripes spawned regularly.
Here is how I went about it:
Set up a bommie on both sides, with a peninsula in the middle to act as a territory divider. The fish were already in separate tanks with their own anemonies. Added at the same time to the big tanks. There was some initial barking, but they mostly kept to themselves. There were other fish (tangs, dottybacks, etc.) which kept things moving. So, it can be done. But, as others have warned, be cautious, choose species well, and be prepared to remove if necessary. Some species I have experimented with mixing, but had to separate were within the clarkii family. Just does not seem to work out, so suggest choosing pairs from different families. Good luck.

Thank you for the information Dan. I think i will give it a try then.
From my experience, tank raised clowns don't typically exhibit the aggressive behavior that wild ones do unless it's and established mated pair. As stated above, if you add a group of clowns in at the same time and have some size variation between them, things usually work out o.k. My LFS has a 100 gallon tank with about 10 ocellarius clowns in it, and not from the same clutch. They have snowflakes, naked, misbar, black, and black misbar all mixed together in one tank with a handful of BTA's. I've never seen any aggression in that tank.
