Hello all
Really p*ssed off atm. i'm new to the hobby, done loads of reasearch, check the water weekly and all paremeters are good, perform water change every 3 weeks with rodi water. Every fish and CUC have done so well. I added a dimond back goby and Royal Gramma at the same time. The goby is brilliant, allways out messing around with the substrate and hardly hides. The tank is 4 months cycled, had a small out break of diatoms which got sorted after a few weeks.
the first RG i added was a bit beaten from the LFS and was hiding a lot. i thought a good home would bring him back to his best but after a few days of not seeing him i was worried about it not feeding, so i moved the live rock to find him and house him in a speration unit within the DT, but he was dead. i thought maybe he was bit too scittish and shy from his previous encounters so i bought another one a week later.
This one was young, healthy and for the first 2 days was out and about his cave and eating, then went hidiing. everyday he would literally swim out of his hiding spot and go back in. After a couple of days of not eating i decided to act. I saw him yesterday and decided this morning i would get him out and in a seperation unti so i could make sure he feeds. When I found him this morning he was alive but very week and not swimming correctly. Looked like from what ive seen online, fishes suffering with swim bladder, however i think its more do with not eating. i put him in the seperation unit, put some food right next to him and he died within the next 10mins (he never ate any of the food). What i do not get is, he was out swimming, eating in the first few days then went hiding. there is plently of room in the tank and hiding spots. does anyone have any experiance similar to this? i have done more reaserch into RG and they like dimly lit tanks, my tank is quite bright but the lights are only on from 16:30 - 09:30 then it switches to blue only untill 23:00, so up untill these times its natural day light.
These are ment to be hardy easy fish yet im having difficulty when everything else is thriving.
my water paremters this morning are:
salinity - 1.026 - stable
Temp - 78 - stable
Amonia - 0 - stable
Nitrite - 0 - stable
Nitrate - 10 - risen from 0 - 5 - 10 since 24/03/17
Ph - 7.8 - stable
Phosphate - 0 - stable
Alkilinty - 7 -8 dkh
Calcium - 420
Magnesium - 1450
i'm a bit stumped, i want one of these in my aquarium but not if they keep dieing, yet i have no idea why they are. I do have a cardinal that is semi-aggresive towards the other cardinal, but doesn't harras any of the other fishes, hes a bit nosey and gets in close in the RG hiding spot but thats about it,, would this scare the RG from not coming out?
