2 Surgeon Fish in the Same tank?

I am interested in buying a Powder Blue Tang and a Powder Brown Tang. I was wondering if this is possible? Would they fight, if they fight would it continue, or stop in a couple of days.

it is iffy on how they will react normal rule of thumb is not to mix tangs or surgeons of the same shape or colors in the same tank .in even numbers these types of fish tend to do better with less agression in odd numbers i have 5 large tang/sergeons in my 300 plus 1 larger foxface in the bigging the aggression was high however i did find that when aggressive behavior was noptice i just gave the tank some pellets and all aggression stopped.this also works with timid fish at stressfull times a little bit of food seams to go a long way.. well fed tangs are happy tangs be sure to feed them 3-4 times daily as in the wild they eat all day long.i highly reccomend feeding thera+A pellets by spectrum as the 2 species your wanting to add are at very high risk of paresitic infestation

First your 120 is too small for those tangs. Second if you do try it one or both will be dead from ich within a month. If you have to get 2 tangs pick one of the two and then get a kole tang or something like that. Powder blues like open water. 120 is not big enough. Both are hard to keep and produce a lot of waste. your asm g-3 couldn't handle them plus other fish and in return your tank will have a high nutrient level with not much export. I ran an asm g3 on a 125 and upgraded to a H&S 200A-1260 and wow what a difference. Do what you want, but I wouldn't add either one of those tangs to your 120 more less both.

i have a kole and a sailfin in a 125. they are different enough to not have any aggresion towards each other. i think you will have aggresion problems with the two you want to get.

the thread titled "what tang for my 30 gal" has a list by scott michael in which the powder brown minimun size tank is 75 gal and the blue is 100. i realize these are minimums but why wouldn't those fish work in a 120? aggresion is a whole different issue and i agree that they won't work for that reason but i don't think the tank is too small for one or the other.

i wouldnt do it. Your looking for trouble. Both fish are hard to keep on their own let alone together.

That list is wrong. Start a thread about that topic and see the results. Powder Brown in a 75 and blue in a 100 not a chance. I could be done, but looking at the welfare of the fish, it is not a good idea. If your 120 is 72 inches then a powder blue may work. Personally I wouldn't do it, but I also look out for the welfare of the fish at full size and their needs. Not all people do that

How can you be so sure that the tangs will die from ich within 1 month? What if he has a ick-free tank and performs QT?

There is no such thing as an ich free tank. In good tanks it is just dormant. He can't QT those 2 fish together unless he has a huge QT. I am not 100% sure but the odds are not in his favor. There is a GREAT probability one or both will die from ich regardless of his methods. I may be wrong but I've been doing this a while and seen it too many times. Try it. Then post here the results and we will see who is right. i hope I am wrong for the fish sake not the owner who set them up. You'll see

As far as the asm g-3 being able to keep up a bioload for 120 it is more then enough.. The only problem as they stated tank is too small for them long term and even in a huge huge tank not many or if at all success stories of keeping both a powder blue and powder brown in the same tank. They just don't like each other. I doubt they will just die from ich a month later more rather then one killing the other quickly or stressing it to death..

Ich has a life cycle without fish host there is no ich... ich dosent just stay in the sand then go attack unhealthy fish.. It has to be present on a fish you introduce or new rock, invert you introduce. It can't come out of no where if your tank has been ich free for quite some time.. If you have ich still there will be signs here and there that you do have. Though they rang from small to huge outbreaks.

powder brown and poweder blue are too similar and would fight, IMO.
