(2) Tangs, (1) In Quarantine....180 Gallon

OK, so I'm nervous and need some opinions. Currently have a Kole Tang (added approximately 19 Months ago, a Yellow tang (Added approximately 12 months ago) and I have a Blue Tang in Quarantine (about a 2.5-3" Specimen). The Blue has been in Quarantine for (4) weeks and I was thinking of Adding to the DT on Monday. I have a shipment of (3) Dispar Anthias (I have (2) now hoping for NO issues) , (3) Yellow Chromis, and (2) Scissor Tails coming in Tuesday, so I need my Quarantine...

Question, am I asking for Major trouble adding the Blue? The tank is a Standard 180 with about 160 lbs of liverock. I know I could be :deadhorse1: but I just was looking for opinions.

Add it during lights out. That way it ll get a chance it get it's bearings before it gets beat up the next morning. Just my $.02

I think you should be fine, there might be some fin flaring and a little aggression initially but long term they should be fine together.

Fun side note about adding fish during lights out, make sure they don't go hiding into an anemone and get eaten. Awful lesson learned.

Oh that would be terrible. No anemones, always wanted one but they make me nervous..... That's a different topic all together.

Is the blue the "hippo" tang? If so, you have a pretty good chance that it will work out given the hippo is dissimilar to the existing tangs and not a real competitor for their food. It will depend on the actual fish, as some koles and many yellows are pretty mean and aggressive.

I like to add just before lights out so I can see what happens and then douse the lights early if there is more than modest aggression.

Correct it's a Blue Hippo. My kole and yellow originally had some aggression toward each other but only lasted a day or so. Now they swim together and seem to like one another.

My yellow is the one I worry about. He or she is getting big fast.

After five weeks in the hole (Quarantine in the basement) I added my Blue Hippo. No aggression from the other (2) Tangs at all. Only one being a beast is my 5 year old female clown; she has issues

Yeah, big female clowns are possibly the most territorial fish I know of.

Blue tangs are extremely hardy and may be the most abused fish in the hobby. A 180 may not be ideal, but should be ok. If both groups of anthias have a dominant fish that is turning male, you may have a war. I'd slow down a little. IMO, 4 weeks isn't long enough to quarantine. If you had to treat the tang, you's be scrambling for a tank now.

I know it was not ideal but the dispars came in and well I've been waiting for a while for them. The tang was in for 5 weeks plus I have (2) other tanks in storage if something went wrong.

I've read about the dispars and issues with adding additional Speciems. To be honest the all look female, even the two existing in the DT. I hope I don't have issues with them as they are awesome fish and I do try to do what's right in the hobby
