2 x Tunze 9010 VS H&S 150-F2001 internal

Ok, for the price of an H&S 150-F2001 internal skimmer, I can get 2 x Tunze DOC 9010 skimmers ?

Actually, the price of the H&S would be a little more expensive..since I would have to pay for a shipping fee..I would say it would be 50$ more expensive.

I like the small form of the Tunze 9010 skimmer with the "plug and play" ability, but I just worried about performance.

I'm settting up a 120 gallons tank, that should have medium to high level bio load..I'm looking at having not so much fishes, but more corals..mostly SPS.

Also, I like that the tunze consume very little energy..even if I went with 2 x Tunze DOC 9010 skimmers.

With the H&S skimmer, I'm sure to get good performance, but I'm worried about having always to play around with it in order to get the optimal performance.

The Tunze DOC skimmers seems pretty much like a "plug in and forget" kind of skimmer, with I like :) since I travel quite a bit and I'm not always at home to check out the tank.

Also, what's the best setup for Ozone with this skimmer ?
Any recommandation on what Ozonizer to purchase ?

Thanks

I can't say anything about H&S, I never used one. If you were going to get 2 9010 why not get a 9020 since that is essentially what it is. They do work with ozone, I think Ozotech and Sanders make the best ozonizers.

yeah, that's what I was thinking, but the 9020 doesn't seem to be distributed in Canada.

I haven't found it anywhere ?

I don't know, usually more expensive skimmers are special order but I would think the distributor for Canada must import them and keep some in stock. We sell a fair number in the US.

Roger can you explain how you could inject ozone into the skimmer. It took a few hours of research to understand how these badboys work and I still look at that foam extractor and say how can that work as good as a collection cup. But I trust you all did your research and it does work better. I just dont see where ozone could be injected.

The ozone is injected into the skimmer through a port specifically designed for this purpose. You run a small air pump through an ozonizer and connect the airline to the nipple. A Rena 50 Or small Schego pump (Prima if I recall correctly) has the correct air volume, about 50 l/hr. Both are good pumps, I prefer Schego though for availability of spare parts.

roger, I am very familiar with how an ozonizer works as I run ozone on my sps system. my question is more about the way these doc skimmers accept ozone. you mentioned a port designed for this. where are they located on the doc skimmers? also on most skimmers you are asked to tee off the air intake of the venturi line so the pump sucks air in from the ozone injection part plus extra air since the air pumps can't keep up with the amount of air drawn by the pumps venturi, is that the case here?

It has two air intakes, one is larger and for air only, the other is airline size and this is where ozone is connected they are on the skimmer body immediately below the cup, the screw is in one corne, the large nipple in another and the small one in the other. I only went into specifics about the ozone as the ozone is not directly connected to the venturi, you must use an air pump and the air pump has to be small or the ozone will come out the air intake hole into the room. All air/ozone enters a chamber under the cup where the venturi intake sucks it in, this is part of a fairly elaborate silencing system.

Is this on all doc skimmers or just the 9020? Also should I see this port on my 9002? I have a small hole under the collection cup. Assuming its left off the 9002 eh?

wow, well It looks like ill be selling my g3 to switch over to tunze. is there any particular model you'd recommend for my 90g sps tank with ozone. sump is an additional 20 gallons and I plan on stocking on the heavy side fish wise. I generally like to see dark skimmate over light green tea aappearing skimmate...

PS: you all should add that to the description of your doc skimmers. if I'd have know doc's had an ozone port I'd have gotten one and never bought the asm :-)

sorry posted a question i jsut found the answer to. And I also saw that you seem to be recommending the 9010 with the foam extractor. I think thats what ill be going with.
