20 long or standard for sump/refugium?

Looking to add a sump/refugium to my 75g and was wondering if its better to use a 20g long or standard for one?

Thanks

I am putting a 20 long together for a 30gal. Reef. I believe the 20 long is about 12 in. high. I don't plan on filling more than ten gallons to hopefully catch any over flow malfunction.

I'd get a 4' x 12" tank, I forget the size, either the 55gal or the 40 long. That's if you have the open iron stand, so it rests on the frame on 3 sides. If it's a cabinet, get the biggest tank you can fit in there.

Its a wooden stand and I have to use the 2 front doors on it, that's why I have to stick with the 20g's.

I use a 20L as a sump for my 75 display, mush easier to work in due to the reduced height, especially when cleaning skimmer, moving equipment, etc.

I chose the 20 L. because it is the same length of my 30 gal. The circulation is provided by a CPR overflow and a RIO 2100 return pump, dialed back a bit to match the overflow. The skimmer is a left over Coralife 125 super skimmer which dwarfs the 20L. The rest consists of a Mini-max media reactor, about 10lb of rock, heater, and filter sock. If all goes well, the display tank should cycle around ten times an hour, and the sump will cycle about every two minutes.

I use a 20L sump for my 75g. It works great with very little back flow from siphon when power is off. I use a over the rim return line(Loc-Line) just barely submerged.
I have three chambers: intake/skimmer | fuge | return
