$200 5" sebae anemone?

Yay!.Congratrulation kimsie!. It certainly will be beautiful, I bought the Aussie H. Malu and am also very excited. This is my first H. Malu so are there any tips you can give me about them?

Congratulations on your purchase Shawn! Can you show me which one you bought?

As for tips. I've been very lucky so far with mine. The first one I got from a store (the one in my avatar) has just done great for me. I feed it a small piece of krill, shrimp or scallop about once a week or so and it has really gotten very dark maroon since I've got it. I would say in the 4 months or so that I've had it it has grown about and inch. That one likes to be kind of between a rock and the sand/glass?

The new one - well I haven't posted about it yet. I'm fairly certain that it's a H. Malu as well. It has the EXACT same underside as my 1st - so I'm anxious to see the underside of this new anemone. This one I also bought from a local store. I placed it in a rock wedge on the sand and it has stayed right in that area since. Attached right away and the only thing it's done is moved slightly up onto the rock so it's no longer in the sand. I'm not sure if it will stay there or not. I'll have to post pics of that one tomorrow when I get the new one.

I asked them not to ship it out until tomorrow so it will get here friday, so I have lots of reading to do today and tomorrow. I didn't save a picture of the one I got, but I will post some as soon as it arrives on friday and settles in. I think I have the perfect spot for it. O ya and you know that when your's splits your sending me one, right? :D :D :D Pretty sure my gsm pair is going to love this as well.

Good! Well let me know if I can be of any help at all - but please know I am by NO means an expert!

You can also PM me anytime too if you just have a question.

H. Malu (and most called sebae) don't split like BTA's do. At least not often in captivity. I'm sure one has done it somewhere but they don't split or clone. So sorry!

I think your GSM pair will love it. Just make sure they aren't too rough with it at first. Are they are youngish (smaller) pair? You may need to consider separating them for a little while if possible. If they start to be too rough while it's acclimating itself to the tank.

Ok - so I saved the picture and zoomed it in really far. The tentacles sure seem to be beaded. I wonder if this could be H. Aurora? I know that on H. Malu sometimes they have some beading too... this seems like a lot. I'll have to see what it looks like when I get it!

What shipping did you choose? priority or standard overnight? The last H. Crispa I ordered from them came to me in bad shape. The bag it came in was upside down and leaking. I didn't realise I clicked on standard and the anemone got to be around 3pm.. I was so ticked off about that. It probably would have came to me a lot healthier if I didn't accidently click on stupid standard overnight. Oh well, mistakes happen and you learn from them. I hope that your purchase with them goes a heck of a lot better than my last one.
very pretty anemone..I wish you the best of luck with it.
The next anemone I'm going to try to get will be an green S. mertensii I keep waiting for divers den or an austin fish store to get one in.

OH - Christina - don't make me nervous!!!

I chose standard only because I had it sent to my FedEx and last time I ordered online and chose overnight standard to my FedEx (not liveaquaria though) it was at my FedEx by 8:30am when they opened.

The real problem is I'm SUPPOSED to be at work until 3pm. I wonder if I can work from home tomorrow...

I remember that one that came to you in bad shape.

Your next anemone sounds pretty! I can't wait for you to find one! PM me when you get time - I want to hear how your tanks and nems and new clowns are doing!

Do you have somewhere else to put them? Have they been hosted before? If not - they may not find it right away anyway. Maybe just be prepared to isolate them or the nem for a few days? Sometimes you can take a strawberry container and set that over the anemone. I personally haven't done that but have heard of it. All may be fine - and like I said - if they haven't been hosted before they may take a few days to notice it anyway. Mine have been hosted by a few different anemones so I know they'll dive right in.

Mine currently host in a bta, I could put them in my other tank for a couple days. Also will I have any chemical warfare problems?

Nevermind - I found it!

Will you have chemical warfare? That's hard to say. You have an awfully big tank - maybe if they're on complete different sides you'll be ok? But to be honest I really can't give you a good answer on that. When I FIRST bought my maroon H. Malu - I did put it in a tank that had a BTA in it - and I didn't have any major problems - but I took the BTA out about 2 weeks later - I just didn't want both of them in there.

Someone else might have better advice on that. I would at least run carbon for sure when you put him in.

Kim, one of us had to get it and i'm happy for you. good luck with it! i too noticed some of the tentacles protuding around the white banding and was waiting for someone to ask if it could be H. aurora. well it's definitely not a H. crispa as live aquaria has listed it to be. i think H. malu but i could be wrong (would be one colorful aurora), can't wait to see your pictures.

Shawn, good choice and post pic's. again good luck!

thanks Large angels. it's obviously a hybird C. flavissimus X C. vroliki. not all that uncommon but a beautiful example. lemonpeel C. flav. are closely related to and hybridizes with C. vroliki and C. eibli. as much as i'm tempted, it's expensive and i don't want to jeopardize my T. clams.

Oh hey Marc - I found it interesting - when I went to buy it (6am central this morning) Liveaquaria had it as Sebae H. Malu! So either someone read this thread - or they changed their mind because they had it listed as Malu this morning!

Thanks for the well wishes. I'll definitely have lots of pics when I get it!

Kim, thanks for sharing that, it's too funny.
i guess they didn't want to deal with a disgruntled buyer expecting a H crispa. not that long ago a guy had posted pic's of a H. crispa he ordered which turned out to be M. doreensis (complete with non-adhesive, prominent round to ovoid verrucae and a uniformly red-orange foot), they worked out a deal with the guy. you shouldn't have told us that you suspect it could be H. aurora... just kidding.
