200 DD 2x Upgrade Build

I also just switched from a 90 to the 200 DD. You are going to really enjoy all of the new ways you'll be able to aquascape.

Maybe its just the lighting, but it looks like you are putting together two different colors of stain.

Looks like it will turn out really nice. I have a question on the appliance epoxy you used inside the stand. Did you have to put a coat of primer below it? I am thinking about doing the same thing on my next build.

Happy Memorial Day.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

It's the lighting in the shop room, some old flourescent bulbs, they make everything look yellow. I'm using Minwax Early American on everything.

Yep I did use primer for my first coat then 2 coats of the epoxy. Use it for sure, it is so smooth afterwords and really seems like it will keep the water out.

The tank is on the stand! I'm going to get the doors on and everything all trimmed up as a final step after the water is in. Now to think about the plumbing...

Well it's been a busy couple of weeks, I've been working like crazy but found some time to at least get the stands done and get the sump out from under my 90. So here's some pics of the stands, they are pretty much directly under the tank. I had to work around my home sump pump pipe on the far left under the fuge tank stand and make sure I left room to access the pump if need be. Both the fuge and frag tanks will gravity feed back into the main sump. I didn't have all that much room to work with so the main sump tank is a little cramped but it should still be workable.

The two Brutes fit under the frag tank and will be for RODI and new salt water. They are full of Marco rock now and getting rinsed off. I have all my plumbing in hand and hope to get that done by the end of the weekend.

Here's my future frag station I made out the spare wood and old countertop I had laying around.

I saved my fuge and have that going in a rubbermaid tub. Hopefully it will give me a little jump start.

I drilled out a few rocks and messed around with a couple new scape ideas and came up with this. It's not final by any means but wanted to see what I could do before I put them in the Brutes to get rinsed off for a week or two. The rocks are pretty sturdy even without cement or putty between them but I want to use something between the rocks and where the rods stick into the holes to make it really secure. I was looking for Thorite cement but can't find any. Anybody have any ideas?

The plumbing is done and the RODI is running as I type, it should be filled in about 3 days. The Spa Flex really simplified things and is pretty easy to work with. I got everything from Savko Plumbing, they are a lot cheaper than HD or Lowes.

Thank you. I'm about 100 gallons full now with 6 inches in the display and not a drop of water anywhere. I have my wife turning on the return pump empty couple of hours to empty to sump while I'm at work. Here's some final scape pics before the water started to flow. 1/2 acrylic rods and around 8 sticks of JB Water Weld. Both structures are very solid.

I too am digging the rock work. It will look great once you start placing corals. Plus, your fish will have more than enough room to swim freely.

Where did you get the rock?

It's Marco Rock

I ordered 150 pounds but only ended up using around 125. You get a real nice mixture of different sized and shaped rocks and there is no rubble at all, it's packaged really well. I asked for some flatter shelf pieces to make the ledges and got plenty in the boxes. For 2 bucks a pound you can't beat it.

The tank is filled and all is well, no leaks and no major issues besides the fact that the overflows and returns Marineland gives you don't cut it, they are way too loud. The drain pipe has holes drilled in the side before the 90 and both pipes were constantly sucking in air though the holes. I tried to adjust the air intake tube they provide you but it didn't work.

The return lines has a huge siphon break hole drilled in the 90 and water was shooting out back into the tank, again very loud. I had to do something so I made a quick trip to HD and came back and made some Durso's. I also bought a new 90 degree elbow and drilled two siphon break holes into the Loc-Line just below the water level.

I can barely tell the tank is running it's so quite!
