I haven't posted for quite awhile. We moved last year giving me an opportunity to cut a hole in a new wall!:D I got so busy working on this that I didn't take any pictures during the contstruction process.

I lost one large tabletop acro during the transition. The staghorn in the photo is barely hanging on after a long bout with redbugs. I haven't given up hope yet but it doesn't look good.

It's 120gallon in wall with 50gallon sump. I did all the work myself including the glass block and custom stand. Let me know what you think...

BTW...yes, I do own CBK Aquatics so I apologize in advance for the shameless plug.

Thanks.
No. Actually that's a really cool leather coral. I don't know scientific name but I've see in described as "Devils Hand". It has actually grown to the point that it now drops of lobes to propogate itself. I used to frag it and sell the frags in this forum but have been busy.

Thanks on the poker table as well. It's the only thing I've ever made out of wood that turned out as planned.

You can only use the term retro if you werent around when it first came out lv. :D

Seriously rj, it looks very nice, clean and professional.

LOL....Actually, the glass block serves a couple of purposes.
1. I like glass block and have always wanted to use it as an element in my house (just never could figure out where it works).
2. It's resistant to the moisture and salt creep that comes off the sump. Easy cleaning!!!

Hmm. I'm not sure we're talking about the same coral. I'm looking at the last picture...at the coral just about the blue (regal) tang. It's white in color and has long skinny branches. Is that the devils hand?

Oh....no I'm sorry....I thought you were looking at the one behind that one. The one you're looking at is a staghorn acropora. Whe it's healthy, it's a really deep chocolate brown with blue tips.

It had what I believe are called "redbugs" and was losing the fight. I did a pretty drastic iodine dip as a last resort. The bugs seem to be gone but the coral is almost completely gone as well. There's a bit of blue on the tips and one of the branches seems to be getting some color back so I haven't given up hope yet. I've had that coral since it was a 1 1/2" frag....it's a bit depressing.

sorry to hear that. I don't know anythign about redbugs but where do you think they came from?

To be honest, I really don't know anything about them either. I'm not even 100% sure that's what they were. They looked like little tiny red dots crawling all over the coral. Very difficult to see until the coral was bleached white and even then, they had to move to really be seen.

My guess is they're like a lot of parasites. They're always around but are only a problem when their target host becomes weakened and susceptible. I think the move stressed that staghorn out quite a bit.

There's a bit of color coming back on one of the branches. I think it has a fighting chance. Will take many months though.

Thanks
Jeremy

Okay...I promise...I'm done promoting the business here now.
