2011 Official Fall Frag Swap.

I think there is a missing element in this frag swap -- nobody who I have talked to who has not been to a frag swap before understand the concept. I don't see a good description anywhere of how this works, and everyone seems very uncertain. Let me explain in detail how this works.

The purpose of a frag swap is for everybody to share corals for the purpose of continued propagation and diversity of livestock. The idea is that everybody brings at least a minimum number of frags to the swap. Those frags are then put out on tables and everyone is given the opportunity to go through in groups and pick corals to take home with them. There's some luck of the draw as to which picking group you're in, but that adds to the excitement. The swaps are always a good time and they are not in any way intended to be intimidating, only fun and a way to share with your friends.

It is perfectly OK, and even encouraged, if you have a wife or husband who wants to come along and pick, too, the more the merrier! It's even a great way for them to get more involved in the hobby and enjoy the swap as well by getting to take home corals that are now "theirs."

In the past, there has not been anything for sale at the swap, but this year there will be two vendors with corals for sale. I don't know if they will be set up in time to sell corals to you to put into the swap, but likely not. The best plan is to have your corals packaged up, labeled and ready to go when you arrive. Your Reef will probably make you a really good deal on a bundle of three nice corals to take to the swap, or I have offered in a couple of places to take care of someone for $20. I noted that of the 6 corals I sold to a couple earlier, 3 of them were on the "elite" list so that couple should get a bonus round draw as well.

There are also some great sponsors and lots of raffle prizes. I'm sure that the club will be selling raffle tickets as part of the fund raising/covering the cost of the event.

Again, this is for everybody to come and have a good time! Bring 3 frags, take home at LEAST 7-8, probably more. Lots of us will bring at least 10 with us, probably more, and lots of us will be generous as to what we bring. I've picked up lots of great stuff at swaps in the past and I consider this a great opportunity to give back to the club and the other members who are swapping.

If you have any questions, please ask, and please come on Saturday and enjoy the swap.

the thing is i really want to get new corals and i dont have any "good" frags to swap, all i have is some generic zoas on pieces of lr.
i mean if you think anyone would want to trade some maybe 5 polyp generic zoas for some other zoas i can bring those.
also, would people just bring them frags in a plastic bag or something.

You bring your corals, they're put out on a table, and then when your picking group comes up you pick from any corals that are out on any of the tables. You are not swapping directly with a specific person. Any three frags are fine.

Details for bringing frags are spelled out at the link earlier in the thread. All frags must be brought in hard containers able labeled appropriately.

Thanks Ron!

I got last in the fact that we have so many who have never been to a swap like me years ago. I dont think that I have ever seen a better way of putting it.

So like Ron says. It's about having fun and getting to know fellow reefers. I know that there are alot of questions.

Yes there will be vendors on site but they may not be set up before the swap. Also all frags must be in the right containers.

You can bring home as many frags as the rounds allow. Expample: my first year I got 12 frags, the next year I got 8 really nice frags. One year I got a amazing chalice in the last round. Buy then again I found a lot of beginner frags that people just love. Mushrooms, zoas, candy canes. So its all about looking at the tables and seeing whats there. Keep an eye out. Do be afraid to pick up a container and look at whats inside. A small LED flashlight is also very handy. Bring a good sized icechest with a towel and a little.extra mixed saltwater for just incase. And please make sure that any drag you bring is as healthy as it can be.

This is a family event!

There will be multiple rounds. We have wrist bands of different colors. They will be handed out at random. This makes it fun. So a round will start and you will pick one frag then exit the picking area. The next group will pick and so on. When we reach the last group we work our way backwards to the first group. This happens until we are all done.

We will then have a raffle. On the table will be equipment, livestock, gift certificates and drygoods. You when you get the prize. It's that easy.

We will have snacks and drinks. Water, soda, cookies, chips things like that.

The bonus rounds are an extra for people who bring above and beyond frags.
For every 3 approved frags you bring (theses also count as your buy in) you will get 1 bonus round ticket. This will be the very first round of the day. For every ticket you hold you will get to take 1 frag. So if you have 2 tickets you get 2 frags that round. All frags on the approved list count the same. So any of those will get you a ticket if you bring three.

Prepay is the best way to pay. Please use the provided paypal link. If you want to watch its $7.00 , swap is $12.00 and at the door is $20.00. All swappers must bring three of there own draw for the swap. 1 Wife and 1 Husband- 6 frags...1 parent and 1 child- 6 fags if they want to swap.

I hope that this answers some questions.

I prepaid with the intention of attending and swapping. I'm burning the candle at both ends right now. But if I do show up, it will be just to hang out and drool a little if that's OK.

Not to sound newbish, but If I bring 3 approved frags then I can get into the swap and get 1 bonus round ticket? I dont need 3 frags and then 3 additional approved frags to get a bonus round ticket?

Prepaid and looking foward to the swap!

Standard question -- the answer is you only need to bring 3 frags. If you bring three elite ones, then you do not need to bring 3 more.

Thanks Ron, yes Ron is correct. You will only need 3 frags. Man gotta tell you guys the prepaid list is getting long. Looks like this is going to be a nice swap!

Target, Walmart or any place like them.

It's up to.as to weather or not you want your frags mounted. Zoas and Palys need to he mounted and healed.
