2011 WORC Frag Swap - (Dayton, Ohio)

In the last 7 days over 200 new corals have been listed on fragswapper. Some of my Z's & P's are out there and they are going quick. A lot of swappers including me accept trades so don't hesitate to offer an exchange. This great event is less then two weeks away.

Here are some of the recent adds. Click here to reserve your coral today before it's gone.

With regard to fragswapper... those corals won't be for sale, but there will be plenty of other corals for sale during the event correct? I mean, thats what a lot of the vendors are correct? I'd hate to drive to Dayton and be disappointed... especially with gas being $4/gallon!

This announcement was removed after an organizer sent the following:

"just seeing when the donation was going to shiped out we are less than 9 days out from our swap and would like to have the donation a few days befor the swap please let me know
thank you
ps since we have been posting your banner and now your not going to donate we will post on every site what you have done so thousands will see"

Since at least some of the multiple businesses this person sent the above to had never agreed to make a raffle donation and had never received any banner "play."

This type of arm-twisting behavior (and attempted extortion) is entirely unacceptable.

On behalf of the Western Ohio Reef Club, I offer my sincere apologies to our vendors, sponsors, and companies who have donated to our Frag Swap regarding a recent communication.

As we all know, sometimes it can be frustrating to try to reach everyone and solicit donations. However, this frustration does not excuse this manner of communication and the implied threat associated with it. We do not condone this type of behavior or communication, and we will not make excuses for it.

We sincerely appreciate what the marine community vendors and manufacturers have donated to our activity, and regret any unprofessional communications or behaviors that have arisen from dealings with our organization. You have my word that this will not be condoned or tolerated, nor will it be repeated.

We ask that if you have issues that require further discussion, you may contact me or a member of our Board of Directors.

Again, we offer our sincere apologies regarding this issue. We regret any negative impressions that this has generated regarding our club and ask that you please not judge our organization based on the inappropriate comments of one member.

Respectfully,

Kevin C.

Program Director, Western Ohio Reef Club

I am ashamed of the way that this has been handled. The Board of Directors has sent out apology letters to any and all companies that may have received this email. I certainly never thought that anyone would have sent anything like this, and I am appalled that it was. The situation is being looked into, and will be addressed. I sincerely apologize to anyone affected by this lack of respect towards the companies who provide us with the necessary things to keep our hobby alive.
Sincerely,
Scott Duhl
President
Western Ohio Reef Club
and the Board of Directors

After a great deal of discussion, the Reef Central Staff has decided to return this thread to the Announcements Forum. We are still troubled by the strong-arm tactics employed by people associated with, and in positions of authority in WORC. We believe more than just the individual who sent the emails was aware of this approach, but that many/most of the club officers were not, and several have stepped forward in the past few days to rectify the situation.

We apologize to those business owners, both large and small, who may feel that this announcement should not be returned to public view, but we do not feel that the success of an event supporting an entire club should be threatened due to the activities of a small number of members.

Thank you to everyone involved in the frank, honest and open discussions behind the scenes that brought us to this point.

Thank you!!! We look forward to a great swap on Saturday April 30! We hope to have a good turn out and a great time!

We are only 6 days away. Here are some tips for first time swappers. Experienced hobbyists feel free to post up things you have learned.

- Consider bringing a small cooler or insulated box to hold any corals you may wish to purchase. It can be a bit cool in the the venue. Also nice to take your purchases to your car and put in cooler so you don't have to carry them around all day.
- For hobbyists trading bring small bills or exact amount for a smooth transaction
- When you get to the swap you will be given a name tag to put your username. Be sure to wear it somewhere visible, as that is how other swappers are going to be able to find you easily.
- If you have committed to purchase corals on frag swapper and something comes up and you can't make it be sure to cancel your request. Some swappers may be disappointed however it is better then them packaging up corals and coming to the swap to find the hobbyist not present
- There are tables marked hobbyists. Feel free to use those table to execute a transaction or display stuff for sale/trade. They tend to go fast so get there early to setup shop. Please Limit yourself to 1/2 table.
- Consider bringing a couple extra bags or small container to hold corals. Hobbyists don't have the experience a vendor does with packing corals and they can sometimes spring a leak.
- Have a blast.
