20g BB SPS nano

that's great...

this tank will be coming down in less than a year, no sense or need. the nova is working just fine and looks good to boot...already having enough trouble cleaning the glass without bumping corals and keeping cal over 400, no need for more growth.

...aquatinics is well aware of my dislike for the look of their fixtures

here's the monti when i first got it...this picture actually makes it look better than it really is

i'll post an after shot in a few weeks.

here's some updated pics. i've been lazy and the corals colors show it. a 30% waterchange tomorrow should get everything back to normal. corals are growing fast and it's making cleaning and working in the tank difficult. cal/alk is also even more difficult to maintain. i'll be making a kalkwasser reactor soon out of an aqua lifter pump and nalgene bottle... will post pics when that's complete. i'll then use 2-part too.

to start here's a nog shot. people say bakpak's dont skim, this is in 3 days. the rest of the pics were taken with a point and shoot digital and magnifying glass to get closer up

Sweet tank. Really dig the open aquascape and bb look.

What have you been using for calcium supplementation? or do you just rely on frequent wc?

thanks for kind words.

we drip kalk 24/7... each batch of kalk has vinegar added to allow more kalk to be in solution.
the tank gets weekly waterchanges with seachem reefsalt to maintain additional elements and also 1 drop a day of potassium iodide to maintain dark blues and purples in the acroporas. this is not proven to work, but just an observation i have made with time.

i will try and get a top down shot of the acropora nana, it is really begining to get it's mature growth and typical nana-table shape.

also the close up of the blue polyp monti is the browned out near death specimen that i purchased. it is tan/yellow with purple polyps now and a bright yellow/green growing edge.

hey juan,

nope completely stock. i had an air pump and meshwheel on it, but it threw the tank out of sync so to speak.

the biggest thing is cleaning it. the skimmer gets cleaned just about every week. when you clean the mj it really improves performance. the other thing is reduce the air intake and find the sweet spot with an airline valve.

ah... you have it running with a MJ? See, mine runs on some little rio pump, but I do have a spare MJ1200. I will try that.... sorry for the hijack buddy. :D

Your tank looks very nice! I am in the process of setting up a smaller tank and looking at the Nova T5 4x24w fixture, can you give me any feedback on it, and it looks like you are having no problems keeping SPS under it and that was one of my worries with it just having 1 sigle reflector not individuale ones. Can you also tell me the max span that the mounting legs will reach.

Thanks!!

thanks for the kind words. re: nova, it's cheap and it works. for long term use i would not recommend buying it. the fan is noisy and they are not that bright. also the wiring seems a bit ify. if the fixture is slightly uneven 2 of the bulbs will not fire...it's odd. i needed something quick and cheap for the time being. with that in mind it's done it's job well.

if you keep your water very clean and low nutrient sps will grow no problem and with good colors, but there are others who have had a difficult time with the light, or lack there of. if you want to use it long term i'd look into ready retrofits or tek.

i am not sure how far the legs can reach, my guess would be ~26in.

also an update, friday I will receive my new skimmer...deltec mce600. should be just right for a 20g

well i received the deltec today, thanks to rob for dropping it off. i gave it a good cleaning and hooked it up and i must say i am impressed. within minutes it began to skim.

here are some pics taken 2mins after install....

Nice skimmer they had one at macna skimming some nasty stuff out of a brand new tank...

im going to upgrade from the 300 to that one for my tank.

GSM, i would definitely go for it. overnight it pulled out almost a full cup of sludge. not becket/downdraft pudding but certainly not tea either.

i am glad it's pulling out this much, but i am surprised as my tank isnt exactly high nutrient or a cespool. the water clarity has improved and the flow pouring in randomizes the tunze's.... the chromis really enjoy it.

i got a great deal on it and overall money very well spent, imo it is the best HOB skimmer out there.

a select few say the rogue can compete but from the pictures i've seen i'm not sure how. someone also stated they're injecting 360lph, and quite honestly...i dont believe that.
