Can you do me a big favor and PM me with those dimensions for the hood as well?

The hood is the same as the top of the tank. The hood sits flush on the top of the tank trim and doesn't hang off. it is 4 inches in height. All sides are closed except for the back which is open for air.

I guess I was mostly just wondering about the height... I have a 29, and I have noticed that there is a slight bow in the middle of the glass from the weight of the water. Not sure if this is abnormal, I don't think it is... at any rate, the width of the tank is 1/4" greater in the middle than on the two ends, so I was going to make the hood 1/4" wider. I think this would leave a very slight overhang in the front two corners, but would make the hood appear more flush with the tank when viewed from the side. Of course, I could always just slide it forward a little or back... do you have this issue? Also, I was thinking a height of a little closer to 5 3/4" to hide most of my remora. See any potential problems with this?

Hey,

I believe you'll be fine. I don't forsee any probs. with your idea. Good Luck and be sure to take some pics and post them.....

Hi there, this tank has inspired me to finally make my 20 long FW into a SW. I just have one question, do you think there'd be a major problem with just not cutting the impeller blades, and just adjusting the filter flow to however I want? or would there simply be too much flow. I just plan on keeping LPS and softies by the way.

If you cut off half of the impeller blades you would most likely reduce the flow to 50%. And as far as I know, if you use the flow control you can reduce the flow to about 33%. So I'm guessing you could do it either way, by removing the blades or adjusting the flow control part of the way down to simulate the effects of removing impeller blades. As for what effect this might have on the electric motor that spins the impeller, I could only guess that removing impeller blades would actually decrease the wear on the motor while using the flow control might increase load and therefore wear on the motor, and possibly create more heat. However, it is unlikely that any extra heat would be transferred to the water due to the design. I have no idea how much of a difference either choice would make on longevity of the filter, maybe none.

Check that, I don't think the load would be increase by using the flow control. I forgot that the design allows for the impeller to recirculate water in the filter itself, rather than block off a part of the impeller. Sorry.

Hey,

On my two AC 110 filters i cut 3 out of the 6 impeller blades off. I cut every other blade. It reduced the flow a lot. It's very easy to do because both of those large filters gave me to much flow. Good Luck

I have only trimmed 3 of the six blades, and it is still way too much flow. I am gonna cope LP with my 20L after I get my AP setup.

Such a great looking tank! How exactly do you go about cutting those impeller blades?

Just take a small sharp knife. It's really easy to do.

I'm sure it's been posted before, but it's early and I'm lazy. What kind of lights and how many watts are over the tank?

T-5's 4 24 watts....so i'm looking at about 96watts. Each bulb has it's own reflector which makes them brighter. Also the tank is so shallow being a 20g long that it makes the lighting seem more intense.....

Cool man, do you think 130 watts PC lighting on a 20L would be enough light for LPS and softies?

Where did you get your T5 lighting kit?

I think 130w would be fine. Just make sure you have a couple places in your tank with some shade. Should work fine though....I got my T-5's in a retrokit from HelloLights.com You should check it out a really good site with great prices......
