20k 100w multichip LED build

Husband and I just started building and figuring (more like arguing lol) out how to hang it/place it in the canopy. First pics following in a minute!

Shown here are the power for the fan, dimmable driver, optic pieces, 100w multichip LED, heatsink/fan (Thermaltake for a pc), and the heatsink epoxy stuff.

LED chip is attached to the heatsink and drying.

This is how we decided to mount it. A piece of acrylic will hold it with four bolts 6" long. They will have nuts and washers so that we can move it up or down fairly easily (hopefully). The acrylic will have a slot rather than a hole where the actual LED is going. This way, we can have movement of placement left to right as well as top to bottom.

do you have any pics of it over tank . just for color reference would you take a pic of it shining on a white wall. there is no color references for leds that i have found . i have 14k chips and super actinic hybrid chips . im planing on taking pics of each and if there is others with different colors and put together a thread with pics of the colors they come in
so people looking to get into leds have a way to tell witch ones are what color. sorry for the hijack.

I tried to take a pick shinning at the wall, but my phones camera kept going nuts. I think it was just too bright! I stopped updating yesterday because the sites or (crappy laptop) were giiving me all kinds of loading problems, and with a 3 year old as a shadow, it got hard to do the lights, and figure out the site, and chase the babe lol.

More updates coming now!

Did you order from rc-dc? And where did you get the heatsink. LookS good so far

This is the person we ordered from aallion2008, very helpful to us too.

And the heatsink is from the newegg website (were my husband gets all of our computer parts). It's "thermaltake" and is doing a great job.

Tank with only the one metal halide (for comparison)

and as bright as it can go

The halide next to the new LED chip in the canopy. We designed and built the rig for holding, it has some nice movement to it if we don't like the placing. We can move it up closer to the canopy and we can also slide the light right or left. It will also let us tilt to LED to front or back with out falling out of the rig.

We also took the optic off after fighting to get it on for 15 minutes, we saw that it was more like a spotlight than anything so these photos are optic free.

this is one 20 watt super actinic hybrid multichip. the pic is poo but the color is as close as i could get . it has more purple than in the pic

Where do you get that? I wonder if I could add one to each side of the current chip. I thought mine would be more blue since it's 20k, but now I'm looking for blue to add.

hybrid chips have more than one color on the same chip . the super actinic hybrids chips have 3 20k white and 6 453nm royal blues on the same chip.

funky

what size tank is that funkyfish? I was thinking possibly 2 20w hybrid on my 20 gallon would be enough.
