210 gallon plumbing. Need Help please

I have been trying to plumb my 210 AGA reef ready and the 3/4" bulkhead supplied for the return line does not fit standard 3/4 or 1" PVC. The bulkhead has "3/4 inch" threading and a smaller nipple. How do I hard plumb it when the threads don't fit in a 3/4 or 1 inch standard pvc part. Did they supply the wrong bulkhead? it is the only one supplied that fits through the smaller hole of the overflow. Any have this problem? thank you for any help.

Could you take a picture and post it? I'm having trouble visualizing what you're talking about.

I'll try to take a pic tomorrow. I did not explain myself well. Basically the 3/4" bulhead supplied (that fits the smaller of the two predrilled holes in each of the overflows) will not screw into a 3/4" or a 1" inch standard threaded PVC piece from Lowes. It is to big for the 3/4 and to small for the 1 inch piece. I hope this helps clarify. If anyone has set up an AGA reef ready tank, they should be able to visualize the piece (I hope). Thanks

All bulkheads have an outside-threaded side, opposite the flanged side, which is proprietary and will not fit any standard threaded PVC fittings. Are you by chance trying to screw this outer threaded side into something? The only thing the outer threaded side's threads are used for is screwing the (also proprietary) nut onto the bulkhead to secure it to the tank.

The bulkhead has two "inner" sides -- the flange and the opposing side. Both of these inner sides can be slip or threaded. Regardless, they should be standard sizes -- 3/4", 1", or whatever. Most bulkheads have one side slip and one side threaded, but there are plenty of exceptions. (Slip on both sides, threaded on both sides.)

are you saying that it has a barbed fitting for a hose and clamp? I think the AGA's come with these, just swap it out for a regular bulkhead if you want to use rigid plumbing

Shag's right. AGA Megaflow kits come with bulkhead fitting that have barbed fittings that are designed to be used with hose rather than pvc.

^^^ thats my problem. So I guess I need to buy a different 3/4 inch bulkhead. I don't know why AGA sends a 1" thats fits pvc (or you can use the nipple) and then a 3/4 that won't fit PVC so you have to use a nipple. They should give you both. Thanks for all the help everyone.

That does sound pretty dumb.

Your next step should be to measure your 3/4" bulkhead hole and verify it against the specs for the BH you purchase. BH hole size requirements vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. You want to get a BH that is very close to the diameter of your hole... too big and, obviously, it won't fit; too small and the gasket may not be able to seal cleanly.

I just finished setting up my 210G (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1103197), and I had the same problem.

The AGA bulkheads IMO are junk anyway. I didn't realize this until I bought new ones so that my rigid plumbing would adapt. When I saw the quality and gasket from the new to the ones compared AGA supplied, I was able the throw the AGA ones out with a smile on my face!

Just get new bulkheads - It's money well spent.
