I am setting up a 210 now thats going to be mainly sps and am putting together a stocking list, so tell me what you think

From my old 75
Pair of gold stripe maroon clowns
coral beauty
Yellow Eyed Kole tang
5 chromis

Want to add
3 Yellow tangs
Naso Tang
Regal Tang
Red Sea sailfin tang
Sohal tang
Mystery wrasse
Flame wrasse
Leopard wrasse

So what do you think, feel free to add any fish that you think would be a nice addition

Take out the the naso and sohal tang and list looks fine. Naso will get big even for a 210. The sohal will big as well but mainly super aggressive towards the others.

I'll be honest Shawn, I have 4 tangs in my 240 and they are a bit scrappy..... you are looking at 6..... all more or less teh same size and shape.... it could be disasterous..... I personally wouldn't do it.

Similarly, I wouldn't do teh trio of yellow tangs either. I had 5 in my 240, they bickered and scrapped all day long, constantly looknig tatty..... its stressful for the fish, and just not right, IMO. You can do it, but just because you can it doesn;t mean you should.

My advice, for what it is worth, and I think you will be more please in the long run anyway, would be to scrap the tio of yellows and the sohal and naso, and get a single yellow, a purple tang, sailfin tang, regal tang and your existing kole tang. To be heonst, at that rate, I still think your pusing it, but it is more do-able than the other propositions.

Again, personal opinion - but I wouldn't bother with a trio of yellows anyway - they won't school and be buddies, as I suspect you hope - they chance meetings where they group of coincidentally, for a few seconds at a time......

Adding a regal angel - well i would ask, are you fully aware of the delicate nature of this species? A 210 tank, with 5 tangs and an established coral beauty might be a bit rough and tumble for a regal angel..... but if you are aware of all the pit falls, then go for it - though I wouldn't give you very good odds. I would prehaps go for a majestic instead - relatively, they are quite reef safe, and is all but gauranteed safe with sps..... much hardier, more outgoing, and a much better choice all round, in my view..... emporer angels have a good track record, realtively, with sps also.

HTH - all just my opinions of course :D

Thanks mattsilvester I will just go with 1 yellow tang then, anyone else. Also what flashers could I add to this? This is a family tank where I like the sps but the rest of the family likes the active fish more, I'm open to any opinions.

Too many tangs, IMO.

I would not add 3 yellows I would do 1, I am iffy on the naso, but I would not add a Sohal. sure for a regal but may not do well with a tang filled tank so here is my personal list i would do:

1 yellow tang
1 kole tang
1 Red Sea sailfin ( love anything that comes out of the red sea)

1 Pink tailed trigger( personal idea)

all of the wrasse's
the 5 chromis
goldstripe's
coral beauty after that then look at you options

Shawn,

Again, I'll be honest, and treat this as though it were my tank. That 16 fish you are planning, of which half are large bodied or quite aggressive or both. I would not be planning on adding any other medium to large boddied fish, or highly territorial fish. To be heonst, if it were my tank, I would add those fish that I really want (i.e. your current list) and see how it looks, and then add those last couple to "fine tune" the system - to "fill in the blanks" as it were..... for example, you might feel you want a bit more red, and opt for a flame hawk..... then again, you might not..... you might want to add a couple of little character fish like blennies or gobies..... then again you might not.....

There is nothing really on your list that will prevent you from adding smaller, non territorial fish later, so I personally would let the door open for a bit of semi-impulse buying.....

Things I would be considering would be substrate hugging species:
Gramma's
Hawks
Gobies
Blennies
etc........

Mystery wrasses have been known to sometimes kill & beat up fairy wrasses. My friend lost his flame wrasse after adding a mystery to his 90g.

Being that your tank is larger it might be okay.........I'd add a few more wrasse species to the list to spread the chance of agression & add the mystery last.

updated list

Pair of GSM
3 green chromis
coral beauty
regal tang
purple tang
sailfin tang
Really want to add a naso and if so would be last of the tangs
leopard wrasse (some website said they do well in groups of 3 could i do this?)
mystery wrasse (last except for possibly naso)
majestic angel
juvi emperor angel (if it would be ok with other fish)

What other wrasses could I add that would get along, and any other fish that would bring color and life to the tank?

Thank you
all opinions welcome

I think your last list is great. I think the naso can be good in there for a little but will get to big. If your planning on doing the tangs you have know just do the Purple last because they are aggressive to other tangs and even more to there own species. But i think you have a good list here.

I would really check out a nice group of McCosker wrasses. I have a pair and they're really enjoyable. The mystery would have to go though. I would avoid the emperor angel. They're real buggers it seems, and could cause a lot of trouble.

hmm the mystery is my favorite fish so are their any other wrasses that would get along with it? What do you mean about the emperor angel?

The mystery is just a mean fish, regardless of other wrasse species. From what I've seen emperor angels can get real aggressive sometimes. Plus I don't think a 210g is big enough. Emperors get pretty big. Your also taking a chance with it with SPS.

I will keep that in mind about the emperors. I am aware that the mysterrys tend to get agressive but what other wrasses or lively small fish could I add?

I also think that your most recent list is looking pretty good. However, I would personally keep only one of the zebrasoma tangs (e.g., purple, yellow, red sea sailfin). Also, I would keep either a mystery wrasse or one or more leopard wrasses, unless you are purchasing leopards that have been in captivity for awhile and are eating well. The reason for that is that leopard wrasses have a very high mortality at first, but if you can get them past the first couple of months, they are actually not that delicate. But getting them past that tough early phase with a mean mystery wrasse in there is not good odds. However, if you added the mystery last, or at least well after the leopard(s), it could work. If you are set on the mystery, I'd consider one of the Halichoeres wrasses (like a Chrismas wrasse). They are pretty tough fish, plus they get to be pretty good sized (5" plus), which would look nicer in a big 210.
