210 Upgrade Build with LED Build

Ok so today was basically a wood working day. My son and I cut out the center of the light bridge with a router, repainted the assembly and drilled and set the lights in the assembly. As stated before, the eye bolts are threaded through the main light assembly so in the end this is what will hold up the whole assembly

The glare is from light and the edges of the splash shield are not yet finished.

Yes center is glare from my left over piece of G11

Lots of stuff coming this week. For anyone anxious to see what will happen on this build I am shooting for Sunday to fire up the LED's. Stay tuned.

I cant wait to check it out.. Do you have another build thread somewhere I should be checking to watch for progress of how the corals all do with the LEDS.. my main concern is my clams with a 30" tank hoping I can get good intensity for the sand bed

No this is my only thread. My current 90 has metal halides and T5's. Pretty traditional lighting. The 210 isn't up and running yet.

It will be very interesting to see how your corals react to the new lighting. But first things first, I will be tuning in Sunday to see this thing fire up for the first time.

Right now I have a mixed reef with some successful SPS colonies. My SPS are mostly Acropora, blue and green. I also have a Blue Ridge and had a birds nest that I lost.

I made some fundamental mistakes when I upgraded my 65 to the 90 and those mistakes are the drivers for upgrading to the 210. The biggest problem I am having now is my leathers. I have a few of them also and they have grown out of control. The combination of LPS, SPS, and the leathers is bad for my tank size. It also prevents me from doing more SPS which is what I really want to do.

I would like to add to my SPS collection with the addition of some cup corals, perhaps a spiny and a green eyed. Right now I also have some Pavona frags growing really well. They should be just right by the time I finish this tank.

I wanted to propagate the leathers especially a huge mushroom I have. I think I can do that but I am really afraid in my current tank because I understand that once you cut into a leather it releases a ton of toxins. Even running a bunch of carbon will not stop the exposure to my other corals.

The plan for my new tank is patience, planning and particular attention to the posters on this site. Had I done that before my tank wouldn't be in such chaos. It still looks nice but it's only a matter of time before my SPS, LPS, and leathers start some serious fighting over space. I know my SPS's are going to loose out as soon as the leathers get into their space.

I'm thinking that I will leave the leathers behind in the 90 for a while and cut them up. Some will go to friends and some will go to my LFS. I will keep the rest for the new tank. Once I get everything else out of the 90 then I won't be concerned with the toxins.

A few years ago I fragged my green polyp toadstool/mushroom and pout it back into my display. Within 2 weeks, almost all my acro's in close proximity to the leather died. So, just be careful with your leathers.

Thank you, that's excellent information. Exactly why I was going to wait until everything was out of my 90. Perhaps if you have a moment you can share with me how you fragged it. The one I have now is about 12" in diameter, it's really thick and huge long extended polyps. Like plush carpet. My large black clown just loves it to death.

Yours is a real nice build. I'm taking notes!! What time Sunday is the show? lol!

The big show, yes. That won't be until later in the day Sunday. I still have a lengthy punch list of items to complete before then.

Not to disappoint anyone but the show won't happen if I don't get the rest of my lenses today. I have been in contact with rapidled and they said they would have the lenses late Wednesday. In order for me to get them here I arranged with their people to have them FedEx'd using my FedEx account yesterday. So I should be receiving them today. I sure hope that package made it out yesterday. I am going to contact them today. Worst case if it didn't make it out yesterday I will let them use my number for a Saturday delivery.

Starting up this fixture is contingent on getting the rest of the lenses installed and the stars potted. I won't start this up without that happening.

Stay tuned.

+1 for rapidled .delivered on my lenses just as promised. Potted the whites last night. Moving forward on the build and startup hopefully.

OK, confused now. Your first pic showed the wires in wht/blk, blu/brn, but this one shows bll/gry, did you re-wiring? Can you also kinds of show the wiring in diagram? Thanks

Earlier in the post he mention the he wanted to changed the guage of the wire. Look at post #66

No splicing. I ran the two end negative leads down the length of each LED strip. Then I cut 9" pieces of wire alternate colors, white, black, blue, grey. Then in an alternating pattern I "weaved" the 9" wires through the holes at each LED running them in back of the channel cover and through the holes exiting at each LED. I will take some photos tomorrow. One design goal is to not have any unnecessary wire junctions or splices other than the HV connectors and the leads attached to each star.
Oops! Blind color. I thought they are all blu/gry.
Can you show in diagram? Thanks
