210G Upgrade / Build (Lots of Pics)

Thanks! Wish I could take credit. I'm fortunate to have someone I know who does woodworking as a hobby. He's hand picked and milled all the walnut from rough cut lumber, and allowed me to customize the entire setup. It's been a really fun part of the build so far.

I've gotten several comments on the sump and I've been re-thinking the design. Not sure exactly what I'm going to do, but I've got an initial quote from Felix to have Reef Savvy do a custom one for me. That would allow me to better utilize the space at hand and also keep the height a little lower which would make getting the skimmer in and out easier.

I'm also considering another modification. I'm thinking about keeping my existing 75G up and putting it in my son's room. It happens to be directly behind the location of the new tank so I think I could easily plumb the two systems together. That way, I could keep the maintenance down on the 75G tank and up the overall system volume as well.

More later.... Stand continues to progress, so I'll post more pictures as I get them.

A little more progress on the stand. Looks like the base will be about another 2 weeks or so, then time to start the hood.

Started doing some mock-ups of the aquascape. I'm not happy with the direction it's going right now... Nothing is "locked" in place right now, just trying some things out before I commit to connecting any of this together. I will only connect a few key sections anyway.

I think I'd really like a couple of different structures. The right side will be more viewable on the end. On that side I'd like to do one of the "bonsai" type of structures with several ledges for corals. In the middle I was trying to get a couple of the nicer pieces to show them off, and on the left side I'd like to have more cave like structures. I would like to "tie" them together with arches or bridges of some sort.

Here's a few pics. Any comments or suggestions?

I have two types of rock. I got the dry rock from Bulk Reef Supply. Some of it is their cheaper base type rock and some of it is the "Pukani" style. I was pretty impressed with the Pukani rock. I think it looks nice. I was trying to use the base rock to support the nicer Pukani rock and create some lower caves, too.

Full shot. There is an outline I drew in chalk on the garage floor for the inner tank dimensions including the overflow.

My first attempt at a pvc support structure. I have some rubble rock to try and cover it at least on the front side. it's not glued in place, just trying it out.

Still making progress. Main issue is the tank. It's delayed by a few weeks because I'm going to have Reef Savvy do the sump, too. I'm getting ready for the plumbing project....

Haha yea Felix called me the other day, he told me that the truck that had the glass for my tank had a accident, something came loose while driving and crashed into the glass, so it possibly could be delayed. He wasn't sure though, said it could still be on time.

I tried to order through Felix and got nothing but the run around. He never kept his promises and I got sick of begging for service. I don't know if he's just really busy or what. I ended up going through leemar.
