what is that? cyclopeeze? looks crazy and amazingly well targeted!!!

q: does cyclopeeze cause an increase in PO4? In other words, more food, more waste? does alot of it go uneaten usually?

It's my understanding that cyclopeeze is not packaged with any preservatives that contain PO4, etc..

I think it depends how you feed the cyclopeeze. I'm sure there's a certain amount of uneaten Cyclopeeze that will end up getting stuck in crevices in rocks, etc.

I have been using it every other day for the past few months with no apparent PO4 problems. I do a general feeding where I take some tank water, thaw a bit of cyclopeeze in it, and then dump in the tank. My fish go nuts over it and all my acros usually grab a good amount of it too. I notice there's always a certain amount of it that gets pulled out by the skimmer. As for the rest, I really never seem to notice where it dissapears to; I assume most gets eaten and the rest gets pulled out by the skimmer.

yea, thats what I was thinking. figured this stuff is too tasty and easy to eat for any creatures to let it go uneaten. but then i thought i read a post about it and, then, started to think - "well, if they're eating more, they're pooping more." no? so i started to worry. side note - i havent sprung for a PO4 test kit just yet!

thanks tyler.

I don't see the problem using cyclop-eeze. It is mostly copepods. I drizzle it over many LPS corals and some SPS (brain, pini). The corals love it.

bheron--I like the PVC idea, but have another suggestion...
What about taking a clear lamp sleeve that they sell at HD/Lowes, etc to go over a 48" bulb and put the Christmas Lights inside that? They are typically used as a bulb protector.

No cutting and nothing is exposed to salt spray. I think they're only a few bucks.

Thats great about the cyclopeeze. I'll keep using it. Im gonna try that at night with the corals next.

Natex - forgot to respond to above. Actually, that's kinda what I did already. bought a clear, hard plastic tube, 1" in diameter and 36" long. And I did what you did - keep putting more water in the top. But, for some reason, the food took forever to get down, and it was real awkward (b/c I have a 30" deep tank i guess). I think it might work better with the cyclopeeze.

I do like your idea about putting your finger over the top.

AuroraDave - thats a cool idea about the xmas lights, but Im not exactly sure what you mean. is it something used for flourescent lights? Very interesting idea.

Bryan, you can get them with the fluorescent lamps at Home Depot. They're thin plastic tubes you put a fluorescent tube before you mount it in a fixture. They use them in walkin coolers, etc to protect the bulbs .

Hmmm. Got it. I'll have to check it out at home depot. I might have a problem, depending on the diameter of the tube, finding a spot for them. Thanks!

Airman- thanks! Its been climbing up there hasnt it. Im hoping to put together a nice summary page for the April one year anniversary.

not sure if the mods allow that or not, but we'll see. thanks for contributing!

so you think they'd let me create my own summary page to be inserted on the first page of this thread, with links to various places throughout?

Absolutely. You'd be making a Table Of Contents. I've been toying with the idea for my thread, but that is a beast with it nearing 300 pages long. Someone PM'd me a week ago asking if they could do it, and I said yes and never heard back.

Hmmmmm. This is great. I would love to do it as my gift back to the forum :-) I would make the table and even put in the references/links as well. Since youre a "mod", can I work with you or who should I go through for the details?

yea! please, if my thread was 300 pages we wouldnt be having this conversation !

I'm not a mod, just a Team RC guy. Once you've created your TOC, just contact any moderator in this forum. If you look at the Reef Discussion forum listing, you'll see all the mods' names at the top. Pick one and make your request. They should be able to insert it in the first or second post.

Cool. That'll work great.

In other news, very happy since I put my new Chaeto in my tank earlier in the week. In just about one week's time I've been amazed to see that 1) the hair algae in my tank is literally dying away, including the stuff in my overflows and 2) I dont seem to have to clean my front glass as often!!

I know this is basic stuff, but I didnt expect to see such a dramatic change so soon!

- Another happy chaeto grower.

Hey Bryan,

It's great isn't it? Mine is finally starting to really grow and I've noticed it's keeping the nuisance algae levels in the main tank lower. Mind you I think the huge increase in snail population is helping too. :)

I'm lighting mine on a reverse photoperiod so I am probably not getting the maximum effect, but I didn't want to run 100w of T5 24x7.

Tyler

Its awesome.

Im using one of those Lights of America lights 24/7. Im not sure how much juice its using to run though, but probably mull less than the T5. And it does the job perfectly!

Wow, I can't believe I finally made it to the end of this thing. I started reading this 3 days ago. I just wanted to say that your tank looks amazing, and reading all of this has given me a ton of ideas for the 125 I am planning. It won't be an inwall like yours simply because i don't have the space. But this thread answered a lot of the questions I had about my planning. Thanks to you and everyone who contributed in this thread.
