220 stocklist

We have a 220 reef tank at the shop that recently crashed. My boss misunderstood how to vodka dose and ended up a decimal point off. Which means 10x the dosage. Surprisingly, only two fish died (gobies). The pinn. batfish is looking a little rough but will pull through. As far as corals go everything but assorted shrooms and some polyps died. I spent probably 6 hours today pulling apart the system, cleaning it, and setting it back up. So back to square one. As far as corals go, I think were set, but I need some suggestions on fish

Current Inhabitants:
Purple tang 3-4"
Pinn. Batfish about 12" from top to bottom
2x pacific blue tangs 3-4"
kole tang 4"
3 osc clowns 2-3"
Lawnmower blenny 4"
Mandarin 3"
and I think an engineer goby? 6"

I want to add a regal angel, but other than that I'm not sure. What do you guys think I should add? I want to throw an achilles tang in there, but I'm not too sure about it and the purple? Maybe a pair of flasher wrasse or a trio of cool looking anthias? Both? Help me out guys !

The Achilles would work with the purple. With that being said if you don't have a QT and aren't very familiar with disease and proactively treating for diseases don't get the Achilles, actually don't get the AT. IMO a 220g is too small for a AT and you will be hard pressed to provide enough flow for the AT. You could get a pair of dwarf angels of some sort? Wrasse are a good choice too. I'm not much for anthias, they remind me of a overpriced goldfish

The Purple Tang is part of the Zebrasoma family so they will not bother the Achilles Tang. You can get some awesome anthias, Resplendent, Ventralis and Lyretail are 3 of the coolest anthias IMO.

Adding angels could work, but there is always the possibility that they may harass some of your corals. You could go pygmy angels like the Flame, Potters, Multicolor or Coral Beauty. a 220 g is more than enough space for them.

Other options are fish like the royal gramma and maybe some fire fish?

I would personally go for the pygmy angels, some anthias and a royal gramma.

I'm not sure I made myself too clear. My boss has 30+ years in the hobby. Experience isn't the issue, hes just old school and didnt know too much about vodka dosing. He is thee guy to go to about SW fish around here, and I am very fortunate to work for him. Flow rate isn't an issue, were a pet store. None of these fish are permanent, I'm just trying to set up a show tank. If there isn't enough flow, it's five steps to a powerhead or anything i need. I'd go on about all the big systems we have, but it's easier to just say it's not an issue. We are also the only LFS around here who has a QT system made up of 6 24g tanks.

I think some flames would look great, and potters also seem to be a common choice for our customers. I agree with the anthias opinion, but they are a good "filler" fish and add moving color. A pair of flashers would be a good addition as well.

I think an Achilles and a regal be good for that tank. I am currently qt a regal for my 210, and I already have a little and Achilles with a hippo and they are doing great.

I'd definitely recommend a Melanarus Wrasse and a Copperband Butterfly. Not only are they both beautiful and peaceful, but they'll also help if you accidentally introduce flatworms or aptaisia. The wrasse is probably one of the easiest fish to keep. The Copperband is a lot more sensitive, but if you have plenty of rock and stable parameters, you'll be fine.

If you're looking to add a little more color, I think the Flame angel is another great addition and generally well behaved in a reef tank.

If it is a show tank and your confident in your ability and those around you get the AT. Most that would ask this question I would tell not to get like I did above. GL with everything

if you add a regal angel be prepared to lose almost all corals. My brother had one that ate everything from SPS-softies

My only question was about compatibility, and maybe some opinions on stocking a big reef. Just curious to hear others opinions. I am confident in our ability, but will take what you have said into consideration. Thanks!

Might rethink the regal then. Flames will probably work. We have a large melarnus in another tank at the shop that would look good.

This will vary by individual fish. My buddy has one in a 375g with a ton of SPS and the regal doesn't nip at anything. Being that they are a shop they could get more than one and pick the best one as far as Nipping or not nipping

Their personalities sure do vary. The two that I have are like night and day as far as personality, but tolerate each other which is all that matters in my FOWLR. It's just going to be a pain to catch if it does start nipping.

Every time I talk about which angels are reef safe and aren't, I think of this video:

Copps does it all haha...
