Thanks Jflip, the external overflow was another idea of Psyire, man am I glad I met him he has helped me with lots of good ideas, weather he knows it or not. I have picked up a lot on this forum over the last 2 years. I don't post a lot, but I sure read a lot. There will be more questions that I will have as the thread goes on so keep your eyes open please, I'll need all the advise I can get.

Same here! Thats the great thing about any forum online. Theres so much information I never would know. This place has saved me money on having to buy any sort of books, and saved me on pages of reading. Though I have wasted countless hours browsing lol.

I need some advise please I have a freshwater reservoir and I have a Kalk Reactor. Do I do all my topping off with Kalk? Or just schedule it to dose Kalk for x amount of time at x time per day?

Thanks

Ken

I would run all top off through Kalk reactor. You can always slow down your kalk reactor stirring if necessary but I find it's a challange to maintain Ca even with complete replacement of H20 through the reactor. I replace at least 3-4 gallons per day in my tank and I still can't keep up with Ca via the kalk reactor.

Matt & Pam thanks for the info, will a Tunze Osmolator work for this?

Mouscacha thanks I do most of the work on this in the evening after they go to bed.

Chrisqueenz thanks the pumps came from a place in Edmonton called Marine Aquaria at marineaquaria.ca

Any Ideas on how to get the rock off the starboard for flow to go underneath?

Ken

Very nice set up so far. Can I ask where you found the true union ball valves?

I like your wife's taste in hockey teams!

Thanks Catherine, my wife's taste in teams is Calgary Flames, mine is the Oilers, so we don't need to be bringing up my wife's favorite so called "hockey" team. (just kidding)
The true union ball valves were also picked up at marineaquaria.ca. He orders them in from Emco which is a plumbing distributor.

Ken

Lol!

I'll get in touch with him, or Emco. Are they worth the extra cost? Is working with them in terms of plumbing about the same as their white PVC counterparts?

Thanks to Matt & Pam for the idea on how to run my lights on a bicycle pulley system, I now have the lights hung. Here are some pics, the lights didn't hang as nice as I hoped. I had to take the glass out of the Lumenarc's so that the rack didn't sag anymore.

You can see the sag in this photo, that's been fixed!

Here are the bicycle pulley's that I used. They work pretty slick, but don't raise the whole rack evenly.

This image is of the LCD Lunar lights in the background. I have 4 of them.

I've no experience with the tunze osmolator.

I use a 44 gallon brute trash can for ro/di storage, and use a pump set to deliver continuous infusion. Initially I used one of those hospital iv pumps (used off ebay) and it worked ok for about 1 yr. After it died, I swithced to a pulsafeeder. It's a workhorse, but too noisy. I'm probably going to put a soundproof material around the pulsafeeder, but if that doesn't work I'm going to switch to a litermeter.

I have the same sag problem with my light rack. I used 1/2" aluminum and made something like yours. I need the glass on my reflectors - not really an option to go without - so I just support in between the lights with stainless wire. Maybe another way you could reinforce the lights is to have a heavier aluminum bar mounted about the lights? If it's stout enough it would keep the lights straight. Then run the pulley cable onto the top bar.

Radar, thats too bad about the chip out, I had a chip and crack repaired on my truck windshield once. It didn't take long and after the install guy buffed it out you could not see the chip or crack unless you got really close and new it was there. Maybe there is something like this that would work for the tank. Seems like a shame teh manufacturer couldn't do anything.

Yeah, It is strait without the heavy glass, so I might look at a lexan or plexi glass material, they are much lighter, but may not stand up to the heat. I will reinforce the lights in the middle if that doesn't work.

Sorry I missed the last two threads!
Tundra I am going to have the glass guy come and look at it to see if there is anything he can do. It is really tiny, I'm not that concerned about it but I will always know it is there. As for the manufacturer, The tank was really clean when I picked it up and they did an inspection (must not have seen this) and they cleared it as OK. I guess when you are in that business, how do you know that a client didn't chip it and is blaming you, I hear that happens often.

Kannin, thanks, things are going to slow down for a while, I'm off to take the family to Disney World and Cruise for 3 weeks. I have to get out of this long winter we are having before I go insane.

Are you running HQi or Mogul MH? If you have HQI you need the glass for UV protection or w/mogal it will help with the bulb life keeping salt of the lights, you should try to get the glass back in there. Just my 2 cents, great build and set up .....
