225 Tank build thread

Its similar to Ohms Law. I=P/E, or current = power (watts) / voltage.... so,

I = 2000 watts / 120 volts = ~ 16 - 17 amps

I think. ;)

You got it.

Eric, I see what you are saying, so it seems as if the air in the pipe is now being pushed up and out of that vent at the sump? Interesting I'll have to have a look at it first hand to understand.
Its kind of like my 10 we did, you know who would have thought I'd need a 1.5" drain and bulkhead? its amazing but when gravity feeding it can be tricky.

My 600 uses only 2-2" drains with no venting only a durso with a small hole drilled in the top. That setup keeps up with a hammerhead and a barracuda! I originally thought I'd need a 4" but couldn't get that large of a bulkhead in the space I had very well.

Cool! Thanks guys, sounds like I'll be fine with just one circuit, so two will be overkill! :D

Chris, gravity feed can suck especially when it has to travel to the otherside of the room. Yes, the air being pushed at the sump is amazing, just putting your hand over it really quiets it, but you can really feel it pushing... :) You'll have to come over again some time to see it flowing!

As for your 600, you have it draining almost straight into your sump, 2 2" pipes is more than enough for me, but I have them T'd together which restricts the flow, I went to the 3" to help reduce the back pressure and let the water fall from there. If you look in the cap (they are removable) at the drain, it looks like one hell of a water ride! LOL!

UPDATE:
Tank is already half filled, I forgot we went with a 125g/day unit, I thought it was 75... So tank should be filled tonight and ready for sand and salt. Rock got treated last night, but not sure how long to let it sit before putting it in the tank, and do I need to do anything to get rid of the Interceptor from the rock?

I undertand Eric, and Yeah I want to see it flowing in person once you have everything in it.
Also I thought about mine and they drop vertically a couple feet and that probably really helps pull the water through much faster than a long slight grade.
Have fun with the setup, take pictures for us all!

as far as interceptor goes, I know you are supposed to do w/c's afterwards so by removing the rock from the tub its in you are effectively doing a 100% change so I can't see what else you'd have to do.

Chris

Cool, thanks Chris, just let me know when you want to come over...

So the amount of interceptor in/on the rock shouldn't be enough to do anything to the tank? I'm really overdosing and want to make sure I don't take out any livestock.

Alrighty, everything is up and running! :D No pix yet, but I've got 80lbs of sand in the tank (believe it or not, it's enough for about 3/4-1") and another 80lbs available should we want to go deeper. All the rock was bucket rinsed in fresh salt mix and then taken down to the tank. For having just added sand and rock you could still see about 30" into the tank, just need to get a little more water added and let the skimmer run overnight and she'll be looking good come morning. :D I'll get some pics tomorrow and hope to do a better aquascaping job at that time.

I must say, 220lbs doesn't look like anything in there!!! Pics will come tomorrow (maybe), although I still only have one light on the tank, I'll have the new ballast end of the week (at least I better) party is on Saturday!

Thanks bro! Man my back is killing me this morning... LOL!

We drained the trash cans and buckets and didn't find any crabs or mantis shrimp, I hope it due to the rock not having any...

Here's a couple pics my dad took this morning, bubbles still cover the front, but at least you can see the progress... Still need to scape, right now it's just piled in there.

did you decide on how to address the strainers on the bulkheads? What size were they? I think Marine depot had some large threaded one.

I figured I'd just use gutter guard... I can make is flush that way and not spend 18.00 plus shipping on 2 strainers.

Well, we ended up rescaping it last night... Just not enough rock for the tank, but it will have to do.

Here's some new shots, LMK what you think, the left side is hard to see (no lights yet)...
