2300G Cylinder - Preview

Nice mix of rustic and modern. That lap pool is sick. I know here they are building them stubby with strong currents so you can swim in place, but it kinda scares me TBH.

i enjoy the house and other updates as much as the tank. very nice!! i was surprised to see the cover over the lap pool? why did you do that? probably has something to do with the fact that you live somewhere warm compared to Montana :):)
thanks for the updates.....

Wow, I just found this build and took a long time reading through most of it. I must admit that your planning and execution is inspiring and both your home and tank look amazing.

Lucky for me I came upon this thread when you are close to getting it wet, unlike the others I haven't had to go through the two years of anticipation :).

I'll definitely be keeping my eye on this thread from now on.

I remember spotting this build thread back on Page 5 in 2008, its great to see the dream so close to reality!

As a fairy wrasse fan myself, I am curious to hear what you have planned. Schools? Trios? Which species?

That is a heck of a tank. I can't wait to see it full of water > rocks > fish and corals. I wish I had room for 2300G.

Very nice table by the way.

Amazing thread! It is so nice to see a house built around the tank so well; it is no wonder it has been such a long project. To keep your hopes up I can say that nothing good in this hobby happens fast, only bad things do!!

I had a question though. I know that fresh water in Australia is pretty scarce and there are some serious cut backs on water usage. How do you overcome this when you are going to be topping your tank off with at least 10 gallons a day of fresh water? Even with the most efficient system that is 20 gallons total usage.

I enjoy looking at this thread i think more for the construction of the home than the tank.. lol.

Although I'm not gonna lie I can't wait to see that tank wet!

Diablo,

Wonderful build! I know I'm late to the party, but I also have a hydrowizard on a new reef tank. You may have some issues mounting it, and underestimating the amount of force, if you use it in one of the pulse modes, or even at a higher stream setting. IMHO, the single unit I have on a 12 000 gal., is too much - I can't run it above 80%, or it blows everything around - so I'm not sure how 2 will work on something this size. Feel free to PM if you have any questions about them.

hi mark, who installed the solatubes for you?

Hi Damer, the solatube installer we went with was Scotsco

Sorry all for not updating for a few weeks. Anyone who is considering doing one's own concrete form work should note that it takes longer than one might imagine!

2/3 complete

Hopefully concrete will be poured over the next week or so and I can get some water in this baby!

FWIW pool is tiled. Deck to be completed over next fortnight:

Trios where possible:

Cirrhilabrus solorensis (preferably the below color morph)

Cirrhilabrus scottorum
Cirrhilabrus lineatus
Cirrhilabrus exquisitus

17,000G of underground rainwater tank should do the trick!
