24 Gal Nano Cube sand...

Hi:

I am setting up a 24 Gal nanocube. I originally put in 1 15 lb bag o sand, which shows about 1" of sand through the glass (not sure how much more below that I cannot see...).

I read that I should probably have more like 1 lb per gallon.

SHould I add more?

This is someone esle's tank, but this shows about how much sand I have- I have a lot more rocks, though- about 28 lbs...

I'm not sure but a pound per gallon might be o.k. in a bigger tank but that would be a TON of sand in a Nano. Would your cleanup crew be able to sift through more sand? I only have 2 Nassarius snails, 3 Cerntih and 4 Baha Hermits and my sandbed is kept fairly clean.

I say if you do it do it over time, let your system get used to it slowly (unless you don't have anything in your tank now, in which case go crazy).

You can always add more by using a funnel & tubing, keep the sandstorm to a minimum.

When I bought the clown I was told it was a sebae clown but I am not sure.

Here's a closeup:

I like him but he is growing like a weed. I have the couch next to the tank and when the lights go off he will stay in the bottom left corner of the tank, almost like he is hanging out with me

The sand bed in my tank is about 3in deep (that's because I plan on keeping a Jawfish) and it's working well. I do however like sand beds that are not as deep. They look better IMO.

SOrry for stealing your pic- it just looked like the same level on the glass as my sand level, and I thoiught it would be good to show. However, my rocks go all the way down, sand added after, If your rocks are on top, that may be the difference. But that is about how high my sand shows....

Right now I have 3 Bllue legs, and two turbos. Tank is only a week old, so I though if I SHOULD add more, now would be the time. But now I am thinking I will keep it as is.

Had my namonia spike, now I am having an algea bloom!

Hi Carfac,

It is better "not" to put the rocks right on the bottom. people use all sorts of ways to prop up the rock but the most commin is small peices of PVC. That way if your jawfish tunnels under it the rock will not shift or come crashing down on you. IMO

No plans for a jawfish in the cube. Gobi, yes, but noit a jawfish.

Probably will have a clown, a six-line, and a comet... plus a bottom-sifting Gobi once I max it out.

Anyone here ever do a Comet?
