24 gallon Aquapod (lots of pics)

I wonder if you used a little silicone around the inside edge if this would help with leaks? I can see how it would leak with the waves hitting towards the front of the tank. I wonder why they don't silicone when they make it to keep this from happening....hummm

I had the system 12 and it did the same thing when the water was too high.

Looks like you had a nice thing started anyway. I can't believe how crappy these tanks are made (Nano-Cube/Aqua-Pod).

The bead of water appeared when the pumps were shut off as well. ...when I saw that was when I decided to drain the thing.
I took another look at it since it has not left my hands yet and filled it with FW again. Same thing. When the water level hit just under the brace the drip starts.
I could have decided to silicone the thing up some more myself.... but for all I know there could be a crack in the glass there under the rim that was allowing the syphon to occur. I'm not willing to risk a total failure. I've been around the hobby long enough (years in FW) to know to stay the heck away from a leaking tank.

Wow, I'm amazed that Drs. F&S got the 24 gallon Aquapod to you on only the second try. After 3 pulverized tanks, all shattered in the same spot, I gave up on FedEx actually delivering a tank in one piece. I canceled my order (though I got 3 free cheap pumps out of the 3 week ordeal). Karma, maybe?

Anyhow, I just gave in a bought a 30 gallon oceanic cube (20x18x20). I kept the 70W HQI fixture that went with the AquaPod and I am adding a CPR Aquafuge PS for skimming/fuge duties . . . I'm 110% happier with the Oceanic 30 than I think I'd have ever been with the AquaPod.

Does Anyone know how to size a picture down the the 50kb limit I cant seem to get and pics on, please let me know asap, I already tried the Irfanview and cant figure it out not the smartest on comps thanks
Steve

OK... I know I'm asking for trouble. They sent another AP.
Think the third time is the charm?
Same modifications, started another leak test. I'll run it for a week...or two before I decide to move everything over.

This time I used some DAP silicone and added another bead of sealant around the inside rim.
Another thing I've done, reversed the antic and daylight bulbs so that the fan goes on with the antics. This gives the tank an extra couple hours of fan cooling.

jeez, I'm waiting on my second since the first came cracked, I'm wondering if I should even open the box or just send it back for a replacement....

thanks for all the updates, i'll let you know how mine goes when it get's here.

Tell me about it. A miscommunication got anther one sent to me instead of a refund... I'm giving it one last shot. After a few days its doing just fine in the holds water department. There are some temp issues. Even while running just one pump, temps are up around 86. Not too happy with that, but it's fixable. I'll be adding a chiller, the ice probe or the IAC from nanocustoms.

icenine2005 & smy168- hope it works out for you guys. The packaging on these tanks are ridiculous.

I finally put sand and water in my 24g AP MH version. So far its been okay. But I do want to improve the circulation though.

so my tank is in, it's in shape, so far no leaks or anything. I definitely have a problem with the water flow (not enough) but I'm using the hydor heater/powerhead unit on the inside of the tank so that's helping.

quick question, I have the fission and I'm not sure where to place this thing...any suggestions?

I took a pass on the fission... so I can't say for sure.
I would think you are fairly limited as to where it's going to fit... far left side or far right. I would probably try to stick it on the left side behind the intake from the display.
Glad to hear your tank made to you OK.

Put fission behind intake grills and theres no need for the elbows.

icenine2005- Are u going to do the same mods as before?

Anyone upgrade the stock pumps?

Already did the same mods. ...and I'll likely switch out the stock pumps with something that does not throw out so much heat.
...although its the ballasts that are generating most of the heat.

hey Ice, what does the open plug behind the lid do? i swear i'm really not that dumb but the directions are primitive at best and I'm not sure what it does. Can you shed some light for me?

Open plug? I'm not sure what you are refering to... the open hole on the side at the back? With the plastic ring in it? Or maybe the cord for the moonlight? Got a pic?

I got word from Nanocustoms that the IAC chiller they sell will fit the 24 gallon version of the 'pod. So that will be a mod that will be done sometime soon. In the meantime, I'm ditching the stock pumps for maxi jet 900s. The maxi jets will be considerably less wattage, lets see what kind of temperature reduction it gets me.
